data of but the papéra themselves, In want of actual specimens. And I could do this the more as BANARESCU himself separated the two forms on the same basis. In the followings /cf. Table I-IX/, I submit in tables the measurement data used In my studies, together with the results of readings made on the home and the Temes specimens . In his paper, BANARESCU gives his data grouped according to body sizes, and it is striking how far, within a single population /the four Temes groups/, the measurement values of the specimens belonging to various sizes deviate among themselves. In contrast, SLASTENENKO publishes but a single value for every body measurement, failing, unfortunately, to give the sizes of hlB specimens examined. BANARESCU assumes that SLASTENENKO based his description on mainly Bmall-bodied specimens, - a rather improbable presumption in view of the fact that the description of a new form based on juvenile specimens ÍB unusual In literature. I think it more probable that SLASTENENKO gives the values of specimens collected without selection /random sample/, and if this really be so then BANARESCU did not chose the most fortunate solution, when, for basis of comparison he draws a parallel between an arbitrarily selected size-group of the Roumanian populations and the data of the Dnyeper population. We have no clear concept from BANARESCU' s paper on the size-group serving for the comparisons. In this regard, we find the following passage in his paper /translated from Roumanian/: „By a comparison of the biometrical data, rather large differences would show between this and the Dnyeper form. But I have now and then called attention to the fact that the values as given by SLASTENENKO resemble especially those which I found on specimens of a small stature. It is most probably therefore that the specimens measured by SLASTENENKO were juvenile ones. By this assumption the differences between the two races will not be so striking.
