obtained by ne give an almost complete agreement. The original description falls to give any further measurement data, while I found differences in yet 5 other features, namely: the head of racovltza i is broader /14,9-15,6 M. 15,2 56/, and higher /19,6-22,2 %, M. 21,1 %/, the preventral and preanal distances are greater /52,6-55,3 %, M.53,8 75,678,5 %, M. 76,7 %/, while the base of A. is shorter /10,914,5 M. 12,7 %/, than in erythrophthalmn e . In view of the small number of my research specimens, I let prepare a skeleton of only one fish, comparing it the erythrophthalmu s skeletons. According to the original description, the dentation of the pharyngeal teeth is stronger than that of erythrophthalmu s ; I found the pharyngeal teeth agreeing with those of the latter species, failing to find any differences in either the numbers or the Itïee of the teeth. According to MÜLLER, the number of the vertebrae may be 36-37, I found 39, - a value charact eristicai of erythrophthalmu s . The description states that the anterior part of the vomer is wider and the mesethmoideum well developed, I found both bones wholly corresponding with those of erythrophthalmu s . There are no further osteological differences given in the description, yet I examined also the other bones, but did not find any disagreements worth mentioning. Summing up the aboves, I may state that though the capture locality of the five specimens examined by me is the terra typica of this species, I could find in my fishes but five of the numerous differences against erythrophthalmu s as given in the description of the species,to which one may add five further proportional disparities, not contained in the description and found by me. Since, however, racovitza l fart. 1b to differ from erythrophthalmu s in any of the specific characters, that is, it cannot stand as distinct and categorically separable from the latter one, but, on the other hand, as it can significantly be segregated from it with respect to some measurement ratios, - evolved on the environmental
