SENTINEL November, the month of falling leaves and general disagreeable weather, is here for the lovers of the great outdoors. But then again it is one of the most beautiful times of the year, with all the leaves on the trees turning the beautiful colors that only Mother Nature can produce. It is also the time of the year when the continual raking and burning of fallen leaves is a must. You can hardly drive down a street without running through smoke from burning leaves. For- the good folks that are interested, last month I told you that George Stefely had opened a new jewelry store, but I did not list the proper address. Well now you can find it without any trouble as he is located at 7444 West North Avenue in Elmwood Park, Illinois. We have another new venture being taken by one of our members who is also going into business for himself. It will be known as the Rite Movers, at 2647 N. Harlem Avenue, Chicago, and the proprietor is William Radi. So those of us who have any moving, shipping or crating to do, contact Bill and he will take care of it for you. Frank Chaber is also in business for himself. He is in the upholstery and furniture rebuilding game, located at 5926 Higgins Road. His work I can vouch for as he is the one who rebuilt and reupholstered my living room furniture, and if 1 may say so, I think he did an excellent job. Ernest and Mary Varga are home from their extended studies and stay in Europe. Ernie brought home a very good looking wife whom I had the pleasure to meet last week when I visited their home in Elmwood Park. Lots of luck to Ernie on his venture. Mary is continuing her studies and intends to become a research scientist. GO TO IT, MARY, AS THERE IS TOO MUCH ILLNESS IN THIS WORLD. The stork really bypassed me this month for he did not report a single birth to me. At the bowling alley Friday I spotted one of our young members sporting a beautiful diamond ring. Who is the lucky fellow, Pat? Could it be Bob Guard? Among the new members whom we welcome into the fold in the month of October are the Melby Hoblit Family, that is, Mr. and Mrs. Hoblit and their little son Danny; Susan Dombai, the newest daughter of Lester Dombai; Jeffery Steffely; the youngest son of Stephen Stefely; Mrs. William Heder; Mrs. Donald Kafling; The Rev. August Molnár of Elmhurst College fame; and Michael Misik, who took a new certificate. You know, folks, that this column is like the “WAKE OF THE NEWS” in the Chicago Daily Tribune. I too depend upon my friends for bits of information and news. So do not let this article die a slow death from the lack of something to write. Last month our branch had the misfortune to lose two of its members, Mr. Gabor Luksa, who passed away suddenly, and the newborn son of Mr. John Boesze, who was only about three months old. Our condolences to both of these fine Verhovay families. Last night there was held a com{ mittee meeting at my home, where j we discussed the coming Christmas Party for the children. This year we will deviate a little from our custom and w ill not hold the party the same day as our regular December nieet{ ing. Cards will be sent, to the membership advising them of this change. Our meeting will take place as always, the second Sunday of the month. I urge all the membership to please attend as this is the time of the year that we elect the officers for the ensuing year. The other day I had a conversation with one of our good members. We were discussing the short time that was left before Christmas, and she was telling me that she was at a loss in regards to her grandchildren’s Christmas presents. I suggested to her that she purchase a savings account for them in the form of an endowment certificate and give this as a present to the children. This to me is the best way to start a child, for parents to save systematically and at the same time afford him the protection of life insurance. What is more gratifying in life then the fact that we can say to our children: Here this is yours to have and to hold, as I have tried to do just a little more to get you started in life than my parents did for me. It is the aim of all of us to better our lives and the lives of our families in comparison with the past generation.--------3 i- ---------Veteran Verhovay an Member of Br. 276, Dies Death called on John Pocsik, long time Verhovay member since 1913, on October 12, 1955 in Christopher, Illinois At the time of his death Mr. Pocsik was a member of Branch 276, Buckner, Illinois. He accompanied his wife, Mrs. Susanna Pocsik, who was one of the delegates from District 29.
