1955 / Verhovay Journal
t September 21, 1955 Verhovay Journal PAGE 9 BRANCH 15 — CHICAGO, ILL — SENTINEL By: Ernest C. Taylor, District Mgr. I shall start this article by. saying, Wha’ Happened?” I finally "wrote an article that had no corrections on, nor did I hear from anyone that something- was misquoted or stated incorrectly. Hurray! The bowling season is now here, and before this article is published we shall have started our 1955-1956 "bowling season. We will again have a 16 team league and continue to bowl at the Bel-Bowl Recreation on Belmont Avenue just west of Kedzie Avenue.A special notice to South Bend, East Chicago and Chicago Branch 50. We will again endeavor to have match games with you branches, or a system of round robin matches among us. As soon as the details are worked out by our bowling committee, we will contact you^ and see what we can set up in this respect. Our Auditor and delegate to the coming Convention, Mr. Joseph Hódíts, has finally moved with his family into their new home on Newland Avenue. How are the dish washing and the curtain hanging coming along Joe? I also hear that our goöd treasurer has purchased a cottage in the state of Minnesota. Good luck to Louis Fodor, Jr. on his venture. Ah, a place to go fishing. „ The stork was not too busy here in Chicago among the membership this month as he only reported three births to me. Mrs. Joan Farley, formerly Joan Puskarits, has a new daughter. Andy G. Barna is the proud father of a new daughter, which of course makes me a new aunt. The Vilma Lowry’s also report a new daughter. Congratulations to these proud parents. ....The son of our member Mrs. Sophie Petrick, George R. Petrick, Captain USN, is now the skipper of the USS Kenneth Brown. Much luck and our good wishes to the captain. Summer vacation is now over for all the school children. The dreaded day of return has come. As most fathers and mothers, our family was very busy with preparations for the coming school season, making transfers and getting the children started in the various schools. TO ALL PARENTS: WHEN YOUR CHILD IS READY FOR COLLEGE, WILL YOU BE READY TO SEND HIM? SURELY WE ALL WANT OUR CHILDREN TO GET A GOOD START IN LIFE, AND IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHETHER IT’S A COLLEGE EDUCATION, OR FUNDS TO FINANCE A BUSINESS, OR FOR THE CAREER OF MARRIAGE. THE BIG THING IS THAT WE WANT TO GUARANTEE IT. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT FOR THEM THE .MONEY WILL BE THERE WHETHER OR NOT WE ARE PRESENT TO SEE THBM GET THEIR START IN LIFE. THE YOUNGSTERS ARE MAKING READY NOW. WITH EACH YEAR AS THEY PASS FROM ONE GRADE TO ANOTHER, THEY ARE SLOWLY GETTING READY FOR THE TASK OF LIFE. WHAT ARE WE DOING TO HELP THEM ALONG? YOU CAN HELP THEM through your very own FRATERNAL INSURANCE ASSOCIATION by the purchase of certificates that will insure most or ail of this aid. We have some of the most attractive certificates that are on the market for this purpose. This is the easiest way of saving for him or her for whatever we may want him or her to have As I am piecing this article together, it has come to my attention that our good vice president, Andy (Banna Ball) Janovics, will not bowl with us this season. I am very sorry to hear this as we will miss Andy’s comedy and good sportsmanship. Could we prevail upon you Andy to change your mind? The officials of the three branches in Chicago and vicinity had their final meeting in regard to the outcome on the Tournament Album. Wre are happy to report to all the branches, to the business men in and around Chicago, and also to the Home Office, that the Album was a success. We were especially proud of the design on the cover, and our thanks to Joe Hodits, in whose head the idea was born. Our thanks also to Frank Balogh, our secretary, who took it to the artist for a layout. Thanks to Mr. John Boesze, the artist who completed the original idea. Thanks to the Elk Press, which is owned by Boris Kalman, also a member, for a fine job of printing. AGAIN, THOSE OF OUR MEMBERS WHO WISH TO BOWL THIS COMING SEASON AND AS YET HAVE NOT REGISTERED PLEASE DO SO AS YOU STILL MAY BE PLACED ON A TEAM, AND IF NOT, YOU CAN FILL IN WHEN IN SOME CASES THE BOWLERS HAVE TO DROP OUT OF THE LEAGUE. THE TIME IS GETTING SHORT. To those of our members who bowled with us last season and received cards, please make sure that you return these cards whether you bowl or not. In the month of August the Joe Hodit’s and the Joe Daukshis’s celebrated their 10th weddings. Labor Day is the wedding anniversary of little Betty Taylor and yours truly —our 19th this year. Charlie (The Contractor) Stuparits will again sponsor three teams in the Moose League at River Grove, besides the ones that he always sponsors with our own Verhováy League. I will keep you posted periodically as to the success of these three teams. This article is written for you and about you, so please, all members, who have any information or news of interest, pass it along to me. I am rather long-winded this time, so I will close till next month. LEDGER ASSETS Real Estate — Home Office Building Less Reserve ................................. July 3,1905 Some fifty years ago a young couple pledged their lives to each other as the rites of marriage were read in the Hungarian Roman Catholic Church of Bethlehem, Pa. Then they settled in the near city of Nesquehoning. The years of their marital union blessed them with six sons and two daughters-' of whom all but one are still living. As they advanced into old age they enjoyed the coming, in the reliving of their own parenthood, of their seventeen grandchildren. Today, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hadnagy, still residents of Nesquehoning, look back over their fifty years together. The climax came last July 4th when relatives, friends and neighbors, from near and far, joined to fete the elderly couple on the commemoration of their golden wedding. Mr. Hadnagy is the very much liked manager of Branch 135, Nesquehoning, Pa. He has been in one or another official branch capacity since its founding back in 1909. His loyalty and devotion to the branch account for its almost one hundred members in a town with only a small Magyar population. Our warm best wishes to the Hadnagys.
