The meeting of District 24, composed of Branch 36, held its election of delegates on Sunday, June 19, at the former Verhovay Home. The following members were elected to represent the District at the Convention in September: Branch President Joseph Heck; Recording Secretary John Dienes; 1951 delegate Joseph Gross; Stephen Danko (sonin-law of Auditing Committee member Mr. Gaspar Papp); and Andrew Konkoly, who represents the bowlers. We all hope the deleKates will do their very best to represent the branch and the district! I missed the meeting ... some of my son Skip’s in-laws visited that day, and since the young man just recently married, Luke and I felt our place was at home with our children and their relatives. More of this marriage another time. * ¥ * Branch 36 is indeed fortunate in having a member like Mrs. Leonard Duffiny. She read of the branch membership campaign which ended on May 31, so she sold $5,000 worth of new business, which brings in as new members her husband, son and grandson. More members such as Mrs. Duffiny would cause a swell in the branch membership and we take this opporturitv to th«nk this enterprising member for her good work. Such members made it possible for Traveling District Manager Stephen Lukacs to achieve his greatest amount of new business in a single month, and Mr. Lukacs and the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association thank this fine member for her excellent work! * m * Speaking of the Lukacs family, Mrs. Géhrge Bosnian (nee Margaret Lukacs) and her young son, George, flew to Key West, Florida, on May 27, to visit her husband, who is a Diesel motor engineer in the Navy. George will be home in October to rejoin his little family. * >(. * Another new member is daughter Susanna, whom parents Steve and Helen Toth welcomed on May 12. Helen and her sister Margaret are daughters of Mr. Lukacs, our traveling district manager, who, we might add, is mighty proud of his two grandchildren. * ¥ * Still another new Juvenile , Order member is the young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Csiszár, who was born on May 9. Mrs. Csiszár is the former Gizella Kallay of Duquesne, Pa. Congratulations to these new parents, and welcome to the new members! * ¥ * Just a personal note to Mr. Elmer Charles, Field Assistant to National President John Bencze: Thank you very much for the kind words about the “Motor City News”. The matter discussed is also close to my heart, and just as soon as the heat wave dies down in the Motor City, I will write you of some of my plans and ideas for the project mentioned, which I have been mulling over in my mind. I myself believe that it would be for the benefit of the entire Detroit area membership. Thanks again for being a “fan” of YOUR OLD FERRET 12996 Rosedale Avenue Wyandotte, Michigan AVenue 5-0106. P. S. If any (of the members in Branch 36, or other branches, would like to contribute to this column, please write or call at the above address. Thank you also for being kind enough to pass on the nice re'marks about this column. How would you all like to read of some of the experiences of the Lucas family in their boat, up and down the Detroit River and the great lakes? We’ll make it a regular vacation column In the August issue. Ivancso $ We’ve added another feather to our cap! Can’t you guess? So far, Toledo has entered the National Bowling Tournament three times — and each time we’ve had a champion. Now, we are very proud to tell our readers that Doris Walters captured first p ace in the women’s singles division! How’s, that for producing champions? June is the traditional month for brides — we know —• but, we are a little late in reporting a wedding that took place in April. Miss Priscilla Poch and Paul Cothrel were joined in matrimony at the Holy Rosary Church on April 23 . by the Rev. Father Paul Palka. Louise Hcnahan was her n\aid of honor and Phil McNamara was best man. A wedding breakfast was served at the Ritz. Their honeymoon destination was Miami. Mrs. Cothrel, I my add, was head nurse at the maternity ward at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo. Congratulations! and may you have a happy married life! The wedding bug also caught up with one of our eligible bachelors of Branch 27. We’re talking of Richard Nagy who, after coming home from Chicago, took the first plane that he could get to Italy! (I wonder if this had something to do with his -bowling while he was in Chicago?) On June 12, Branch 27 being a district in itself, held its district meeting and, on that day, our very capable treasurer John Mokri was elected as delegate to the convention, with our vice-president Andy Rasi as alternate delegate. With a campaign on — for delegates obtaining new members — let’s all of us put our Verhovay spirit behind John so that he can be in first place when the national convention opens in September in Pittsburgh. Come on, Toledo, let’s go! On June 26, we had our 3rd annual picnic at Suto’s grove. As we were approaching the picnic day, we suddenly got word that Mr. Michael Feyes, our president’s father, was very ill. This put a cloud over our spirits, but we are very happy to tell you that he is now feeling better. To make matters gloomier, John Mokri took ill and could not attend the picnic. After a shot in the arm, it didn’t take John long to get back on the road to recovery. Outside the above-mentioned illness, our picnic was a success. Many thanks to the women who cooked the delicious food and those who helped serve it. Mrs. Frank Veres, Mrs. Paul Lajti, Mrs. Andrew Rasi, Mrs. Joseph ..Hornyak, .. Mrs. .. Frank Ivancso, Mrs. Steve Mandli and Mrs. Stephen Ivancso — our thanks to you. Out of town people who attended the picnic were from our neighboring Rossford, Mr. and Mrs. William Verbosky; from Detroit, Michigan Mr. and Mrs. Julius Kovács and daughter, alnd also Mrs. Stephen Martin. From Windber, Pa. came Mr. and Mrs John Krempasky and their family. John-Krempasky, Jr., is an accomplished accordianist. He joined Joe Szegedi and his orchestra and played such fine music that — if he comes to Toledo next June — he is more than welcome to come and join us again! With the temperature around 99 — where is that shady tree — I’ll be writing for you again next month.
