This little extract from Petőfi was on the cover of the program for the March 15th celebration held on March 5th at Hunter College by the American Hungaiian Federation. Eastern District. Read it well, those of you who read the tongue, digest it — it speaks volumes! It’s quite evident that I am still greatly under the influence of the program, and I write this two days after the event at that! The auditorium was welt packed, considering the ha 3 weather. Field Supervisor Josenh. Toma and Mrs. Toma were kind enough to pick me up and escort me to the affair (Ernie is in Florida and brother-in-law was baby sitting- Thanks Mike). Well, Libby and I started the evening off by both having a good cry over the National Anthems, both of them. Then after the invocations Nagyajtay György recited “Talpra Magyar/’ and if there was a dry eye in the audience they were non-Hungarians, for no true Magyar could have sat there and not have had his blood set afire by the rendition of the poem; Libby and I couldn’t see each other thru the haze of tears! What a man! Never have I heard this stirring poem so given. Mr. Nagyajtay was superb!! Yon couldn't help but be proud that you were of Hungarian descent, and most of alt you felt proud that you were an American and in a country where such a celebration could be held, and that the only reason the law was evident was because of the natural protection given us, not to hinder nor to stop Us. I'll’. Louis Yager, who is the president of the American Hungarian Federation, is very much to be congratulate^ on working so hard on this affair, for it truly was an excellent program, well planned, well conducted. The feeling of cordiality extended throughout the program by our own Director A1 Falussy, who was the M.C., was felt and appreciated by all. In fact, all who worked so hard deserve a hand. Our own branch was well represented among the workers. Amongst the ushers I spotted our trustees, Joseph Hattayer and his son, Joseph, Jr. Stephen Sipos, Joe Toma, and Directors Falussy and Ibos. A1 Ibos looked particularly well in his cap and Hungarian arm band. Our branch was well represented by members in the audience, and to try to ’ist who where there would be quite 540. January 31, 1955, Pittsburgh, Pa. a task, so just take it from me that Verhovay was out in full force. I should like to mention everyone who worked so hard on this, but space does not permit. To Mr. Falussy goes a bouquet of roses for the excellent job he dúl — he has such a fluid way of speaking that the program di;l not become tiresome at any time, also he has that dry sense of humor I admire so much. So much for the celebration. If you were not there, you have no one but yourself to blame. A resolution was adopted and passed on. (Copy of resolution) RESOLUTION ADOPTED on March 5. 1955, at the commemoration of Hungarian Independence, Hunter Collégé, New York -City.
