May I assure all your members who attend the festivities the warmest of welcomes awaits them from the residents of this great city. I am certain that their stay here will be an exciting experience. We take great pride in our City’s unrivaled sights and scenes, its cultural leadership, its great variety and energy, its point of educational and historical interest, and we find enjoyment in inviting our friends to share it with us. WAGNER Mayor Verhovayans, This Is Midtown Manhattan at Night The 11th Annual National Verhovay Bowling' Tournament and the festivities in connection with it are worth the attendance of every Verhovay member. And with all these is a bonus — NEW YORK itself! The schedule of the Tournament, the Victory Dinner and the Night of Budapest Dance is so arranged as to give our members lots of time to enjoy the sights of New York City. The glamor and glitter of this great city, as seen here in concentration, will add greatly to the delights of our fun-loving and merrymaking Verhovayans. Digest and High Lights of the 11TH ANNUAL NATIONAL VERHOVAY BOWLING TOURNAMENT 1954 NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS EASTERN VERHOVAY RECOGNITION DAYS (A three-in-one superlative Verhovay event to witness the braneh bowling teams competing for the coveted Frank J. Brogley and Albert B. Ari trophies and other fine prizes; a dinner-dance that is Verhovay brotherhood at its very best; a special honor this year to our fellow members of the East.) TIME: May 29-30, 1954. PLACE: New York City. HEADQUARTERS: Hotel Commodore, Lexington Avenue at 42d Street, where the guests will lodge and where the socials will be held. TOURNAMENT: Fitzsimmons Bowling Lanes, 120 Empire Boulevard, Brooklyn, where friendly rivalry will be the theme of the Verhovay bowlers. BOWLING SCHEDULE: Team events May 29; doubles and singles May 30. SOCIAL SCHEDULE: VICTORY DINNER and NIGHT OF BUDAPEST DANCE May 29. The twin celebrations will take place in the Grand Ballroom. The Victory Dinner will begin at six o’clock evening. A sumptuous menu, distinguished guests, famous entertainers, awards to the bowlers, announcement of the results of the MACKER-VIZI NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN, and so forth, will grace this giant gathering. The Night of Budapest Dance will immediately follow. Jeno Bartal and his orchestra of renown, having given musical mood to the dinner, will play their superb manner of music for the dance, which will go on until early morning, and additional entertainment will be included. SPECIAL NOTE: Even those who do not wish to miss the continuance of bowling on Sunday will have most of that day for themselves to do as they please, such as sight-seeing, visiting, resting, etc. HOST BRANCH: Branch 48, New York, New York. FRATERNAL WEEK PROCLAMATION By LENDON A. KNIGHT, PRESIDENT NATIONAL FRATERNAL CONGRESS OF AMERICA WHEREAS, for many years each President of the National Fraternal Congress of America has designated one week of the year as “Fraternal Week,” to be observed and celebrated as such by alj State Fraternal Congresses, fraternal benefit societies, and the more than eighty thousand local lodges of such societies, in order that the public at large and the more than ten million members or such societies thereby may be apprised more fully of the ideals and objectives of the fraternal benefit system and its contributions to the welfai'e of the state and nation. NOW THEREFORE, as President of the -National Fraternal Congress cf America, I hereby proclaim the week of June 13-19, 1954, as Fraternal Week and request: (1) That all State Fraternal Congresses, fraternal benefit societies and local lodges cooperate and make every possible effort to carry out the Fraternal Week program in accordance with the suggestions and recommendations made by the Committee on Fraternal Week of the National Fraternal Congress of America. (2) That, since patriotism is one of the tenets upon which the fraternal benefit system is founded, National Flag Day, June 14, be particularly observed in conjunction with Fraternal Week, and (3) That this Proclamation be published in the official publication of ' each fraternal benefit society.
