IT’S NO SECRET — NEW YORK FOR US! MAY 29—30 VOL. XXXVII. MARCH 17, 1954 51 NUMBER 3. Proclamation Signed by President Bencze March 1 Declares Memorial Day Week End Verhovay National Holidays The birdie that tipped ns off several months ago that this year’s National Verhovay Bowling Tournament and National Verhovay Fellowship Days would be proclaimed as EASTERN VERHOVAY RECOGNITION DAYS really provided us with a big scoop of news. Evidence that “he” knew what was in store appeared March 1, 1954 when, in the beautiful office of our National President, John Bencze signed a most important proclamation as National Officers Coloman Revesz, John Szalanczy, John Sabo and Field Assistant to the President Elmer Charles looked on. Thus it becomes official that this year’s Memorial Day Week End will also be a National Verhovay Holiday, when the membership throughout the country will observe several days in saluting and paying tribute to the thousands of good, loyal and faithful Verhovay members of our many Eastern branches. This grand occasion will set off a “twenty-one gun” salute to the officers and the members of Branch 48, New York, and to the officers and the members of all the other branches located in the East. This recognition is truly deserved by our Eastern Verhovay members and it probably will go down in the annals of Verhovay history as the biggest and most spectacular affair ever staged by fraternals anywhere in this country. The entire official proclamation appears on this page. MACKER-VIZI NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN PRODUCING GREAT RESULTS May 29—30 Proclaimed Eastern Verhovay Recognition Days PRESIDENT SIGNS PROCLAMATION The avalanche of membership applications reaching the Home Office the first two months of this year has brought an unexpected sudden increase in our new membership totals, about a 40% increase over the same period of a year ago. We feel sure that this significant increase is in large part due to the great response by the membership toward the present membership drive honoring two veteran and faithful Verhovay leaders, Vice President Julius Macker of Detroit, Michigan and Director Louis Vizi of Scalp Level, Pennsylvania. We believe that with the hundreds of prospects being given to our branch managers they will set new records for Verhovay and for themselves. Let us get behind these two stalwart Verhovay leaders and let us show them that we appreciate their unselfish efforts by signing up more and more new Verhovayans. By this we not only will be honoring Messrs. Macker and Vizi but will be doing a very valuable service for the new members, because membership in this strong and solid fraternal insurance society means an assured future for all the family members, regardless of the circumstances which may suddenly arise. We have an insurance plan that suits the needs of every man, woman and child, and our expert field force has been carefully trained to give clear information and render the best possible service to our members. Verhovay is the society that gives you life insurance, hospital insurance and accident and health insurance, besides other supplemental coverages, all these at rates which conveniently fit any wage earner’s budget. Give our field workers a chance to acquaint you with the superior forms of protection oifered by Verhovay. Call your branch manager, or write to the Home Office, 436 Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh 19, Pennsylvania, to any one of the National Officers for information on membership in the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. RECORD NUMBER OF TEAMS REQUEST APPLICATIONS FOR BOWLING TOURNAMENT Approximately 100 application blanks were forwarded to all parts of the Verhovay horizon in response to requests for tournament participation. The National Executive Tournament Committee, consisting of Vice President Dr. Andrew Kovács, Director Albert Ibos and National Auditor John Sabo, is very much pleased that a record number of teams are going to the big Verhovay sports “battle” formally known as the 11th Annual National Verhovay Bowling Tournament. A very desirable change will be made in our bowling schedule this year. The team events, which in former years took place the second day of the tournament, this year will be rolled on the FIRST DAY, that is, Saturday May 29. The doubles and singles this year will be rolled on Sunday May 30. It is our opinion that this change in plans will meet with the approval of the majority of our bowlers; it will give them a chance to be at their very best for the team contests. Beautiful trophies, emblematic of the Frank J. Brogley and the Albert B. Ari championships, shall be awarded to the men’s team winner and the women’s team winner, respectively. Director Aloysius C. Falussy, hard-working member of Branch 48, recently informed Tournament Administrator John Sabo that Mayor Robert F. Wagner, Jr. will officially open our Verhovay festivities by rolling the first ball down the alleys, and he will probably attend our Victory Dinner. Director Falussy is now working on a plan whereby Mayor Wagner would present the Verhovay members with the keys to the City of New York. All Eastern branches of our society will be honored on Memorial Day Week End in a setting that promises to be the equal of the fairy tales of wonderland. Branch 48, New York — the host city — will provide an out-of-this-world WELCOME to thousands of members from all over the country.
