JOHN SABO National Auditor Highlights of the National Officers’ report to the Board of Directors (Continued from page 1) HOW OUR ASSETS ARE INVESTED The assets of our society are distributed as follows: Bends $11,823,859.25: First Mortgage Loans $583,073.93; Real Estate $127,018.23; Stocks $35,032.47; Loans on Membership Certificates $548,050.77; Cash in Banks $248,685.62: Other Assets $350.00. Total ledger assets amounted to 13,366,070.27, while total admitted assets calculated in accordance with the requirements of the state insurance departments amounted to $13,515,399.64. 1'PATERNALISM Our society recently observed its 67th birthday, founded February 21, 1886. In the past year we again saw the roots of our existence — FRATERNALISM — play an important part in our operations. We are continuing to grow because we believe and practice the principles of brotherly love. Last year we again extended aid to our needy members in the form of ser vices and money. The society issued paid-in-full life certificates to 12 members who had Whole Life membership certificates. This was made possible by a March, 1948 Board decision granting such paid-up certificates to those oid members who attain age 85 and who have been members before January 1, 1924, having paid monthly dues continuously for 30 years or more. The society also helped pay part of the monthly dues for several needy members. Maintaining of the Aged in Homes for the Aged was another big fraternal contribution. Two Aged members died during the year. Joseph Király ................................ Little Flower Institute, Darby, Pa. John Bogoly ....................................... Baptist Home, Watervliet, Mich. The magnanimity of Verhovay’s fraternal program is best found in the following facts: “The Association spent $5,574.46 to maintain John Bogoly, When he died the society received the proceeds of his certificate — $250.00.” “The Association paid $2,002.74 to maintain Joseph Király. At his death the society received the pi’oceeds of his certificate — $1,000.00.” COULD THERE BE ANY FINER EVIDENCE OF OUR FRATERNAL I FOUNDATION?
