SUBSCRIPTION RATES: United State« and Canada .........----------....................... $1.00 a year Foreign Countries ..................................................................................... $1.60 a year Entered as Second Class Matter at the Post Office at Detroit, Michigan under the Act of March 3, 1879, OFFICIAL COMMENT Julius Macker and Louis Vizi It is no coincidence that Julius Macker and Louis Vizi have ■been directors of our Association over a twelve year period of time which saw the Association grow into a large and modern fraternal insurance society. They have had much to do with the growth in assets from $3,929.658 in 1939 to $12,645,221 in 1951, and the growth in insurance in force from $27,138,371 to $46,611.957 over the same period. These gentlemen have been definite assets to our Association, conducting themselves in the most exemplary manner. 'Their great interest, even before their elevation to official status as directors, was and has been the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Associaton, and we believe that after what we witnessed several weeks ago Julius Macker and Louis Vizi may be counted on as •ever loyal Verhovay servants to their dying days. The Board of Directors and the National Officers honored these three term leaders Wednesday evening March 19, after the business of the day. (See story of the event in the Minutes of the Board Meeting, Paragraph 54, this issue.) They were awarded the Illustrious Citation and received a beautiful gold button and scroll signifying service and loyalty to the Association. It is not our intention to comment about the button, the scroll or the citation, rather we should like to comment on the reactions of each honored director as he received his award. If anyone present had any doubts about the loyalty and service record of the two directors, all that was soon dispelled. When courageous men like Vice-President Macker and Director Vizi, who have been as tough as nails and as tenacious as a bulldog in their battles on the floor of the conventions, at the district sessions and at the Board of Directors meetings, fighting for that which they considered best for the Assocation, are so touched by emotion that they burst into tears upon receiving •the citations, it must mean that honest endeavors and sincere intentions have graced their Verhovay labors over the many years. No, they were not crocodile tears. They were the current of love for Verhovay and all that Verhovay stands for — 60,000 members — guardian of Magyar life, culture and ideals. To say that Messrs. Macker and Vizi received the recognition that they worked so hard to achieve, would be putting it mildly. From the National President to the youngest director in point <of service, nothing but the best was said of these men. Eveiy word that was uttered came from the heart and was spoken literally. We feel certain that the honored directors never before experienced the deep feelings that overcame them the night of March 19 when their associates gathered together to honor them for Verhovay services rendered. May Vice-President Julius Macker and Director Louis Vizi be able to carry on their noble services to their beloved Verhovay for many years to come! JOHN BENCZE National President Notice To AM Pittsburgh Area Verhovay Members National Auditor John Sabo, who •is Tournament Administrator of our Ninth Annual National Ten Pin Tournament to be held in Columbus, Ohio on May 30-31, 1952, known as NATIONAL VERHOVAY FELLOWSHIP DAYS because of its •variety of social events, is planning to charter Greyhound buses for the convenience and savings of all members and their friends, living within the Home Office area, who wish to go to the Columbus Verhovay festivities and sports program. The chartered bus method of transportation eliminates much worry and effects substantial savings in traveling expenses, in addition to the pleasure of group travel. The more who enroll to go by chartered bus the cheaper the traveling costs. For example a 37 passenger bus from Pittsburgh to Columbus and return will mean a fare of only about $6.00 for each passenger. All those interested in this proposal should write immediately to Mr. .Sabo, 436 Fourth Avenue,, Pittsburgh 19, Pa., or telephone COurt 1-3454. “Daddy, if you don’t buy that Education Plan, I shall certainly inform your grandchildren why their old man didn’t go to college.” PHOENIX MUTUAL FIELD. The „latest such information we have is John (Hank) Gilliland who is a Democrat candidate for sheriff of Trumbull County, Ohio, in the May 6th primaries. Gilliland’s wife, Julia, is a member of Branch 171, Sharpsville, Pa. , CORRECTION! A typographical error appeared in the Official Comment “Welcome, New Board of Directors!” in the March 19th issue of the Verhovay Journal. The paragraph as submitted to us by the editor of the Verhovay Journal, should have been printed as follows: » “Verhovay Directors are not accidentally made. They were and are very active, hard working, make themselves liked, in other words they are Verhovay conscious not part of the time but all the time. The Directorship is their rewardand challenge.” We deeply regret this error. Rapid Printing Company.
