Verhovay Journal August 15, 1951 MINUTES OF THE DISTRICT MEETINGS — Continued from last issue. — DISTRICT 1-B Bridgeport, Conn. The meeting of District 1-B was held on June 24, 1951, in Bridgeport, Conn. Present were: George Bar.dre“ and Laslo Csenger from Branch 68, Stephen Varga from Branch 200, and Andrew Kovács from Branch 390. The rest of the branches assigned to the district did not send representatives. 1.) The credentials of those present were examined. 2.) Laslo Csenger was elected District President and George Bandre District Secretary. 3.) Laslo Csenger was elected delegate to the National Convention and Andrew Kovács alternate. The meeting of Branch 98, constituting District 4-C, was held in Bethlehem, Pa., in the basement room of St. John’s Capistrano Reman Catholic Church, on Sunday, July 1, 1951. President Peter Toth called the meeting to order with the request that each member confine his remarks and requests to matters which are in the interest of all members of the Association. There were 35 members in attendance. Since there were no further discussions, nominations were called for delegate to the National Convention. On motion by Mr. Stephen Lang, Jr., seconded by Mr. John Vörösmarty, Mr. Peter Toth wa selected unanimously. On motion by Mr. William Richter and seconded by Mr. Michael Toth, Mr. Stephen Lang, Jr., was elected alternate delegate. All the members in attendance Expressed their confidence in Mr. Toth, and asked that he should propose or defend any matter which would benefit all the members of our great Association. The meeting adjourned. STEPHEN LANG, JR., Recording Secretary. DISTRICT 5 Berwick, Pa. Excerpt from the Minutes of the meeting of District 5, held on June 24, 1951, in Berwick, Pa. The district meeting unanimously approved the four new amendments proposed by' the Board of Directors. The representatives attending the meeting of District 5, unanimously resolved that the name of the “Verhovay” be retained without change. District 5 favors the one-week Convention. Present are: John Bertics from Br. 67, Erie, Pa., Joseph Palagyi from Br. 220, Conneaut, O., and Frank Bodnar from Br. 81, Grand River, O. Branches 284, Ashtabula, O., and 487, Windsor, O., were not represented. Due to the absence of former President John Kuscsik, the meeting elected unanimously John Bertics, delegate of Br. 67, as President. The’ minutes were read and approved. A letter was read from Branch 487, in which the Manager explains that the branch has been organized 14 years ago, but not one of its members has ever applied for sick benefit insurance. The branch has four old members who have sick benefit certificates, but they have been transferred from other branches. These old members do no longer concern themselves about the affairs of the Association and, therefore, the branch could not1 delegate anyone to the District meeting. The writer requests that the Convention take steps making it possible to those who are not members of the sick benefit department, to attend the district meetings and National Conventions, because the present limitation is to the disadvantage of the Association. John Bertics from Br. 67 was elected President of the District and Frank Bodnar from Br. 71, Recording Secretary. Frank Bodnar was elected delegate to the National Convention and John Bertics: alternate. The meeting decided that the next meeting be held in Conneaut, O. Thereupon chairman adjourned the meeting. Minutes taken at the meeting of District 10, held on June 24, 1951, in the Verhovay Home of Branch 88 in Yatesboro, Pa. Joseph Kantor President welcomes the delegates and calls the meeting to order. Present are: Stephen Shavensky, from Br. 172, John Szenyo, from Br. 218, Emery Prokay from Br. 143, Frank Gaydos from Br. 247, John Kovács and Alex Chobody from Br. 88. No delegate was present from Br. 562. Frank Gaydos was elected District President and Alex Chobody District Secretary for the following four years. The District Session approves the new amendments proposed by the April meeting of the Board of Directors. Alex Chobody was elected delegate to the National Convention and Joseph Kantor alternate. The meeting instructs the delegate to vote in favor of such changes as are deemed best for the general membership and which assure the future of our Association. The next meeting again will be held in the Verhovay Home of Br. 88, in Yatesboro, Pa. JOSEPH KANTOR, District President, ALEX CHOBODY, District Secretary. DISTRICT 11 Scalp Level, Pa. Minutes of the meeting of District 11, held on June 10, 1951 at the V.F.W. Home, 520 Main Street, Scalp Level, Pa. The meeting is called to order by District President Joseph Thomas at 1 p.m., with the reading of the minutes of the last district meeting of November 30, 1947. It was moved and seconded that the minutes be approved. The motion is carried. Joseph Thomas of Br. 33, Windber, Pa., was re-elected District President and Joseph Miller, Jr., Br. 59, Scalp Level, Pa., District Secretary for the! next 4 years. Chairman orders the examination of the delegates’ credentials which were found in order. The following were present: Joseph Miller, Jr., and Joseph Toth, Br. 59, Joseph Thomas and George Modock, Br. 33, Stephen Olexa, Br. 134, Balacz Luckauis, Br. 286, Andrew Olexa, Br. 302, and Andrew Vajda, Br. 415. The district meeting discussed the" proposed By-Laws and approved the proposed By-Laws with the exception of Section 6, where the convention delegates should elect their own chairman. Also the district session does not approve the appointment of the Branch Manager by the Home Office. Also the district session will not permit the Board of Directors to have the power to consolidate and allocate any or all funds for the payments of Insurance benefits or other Funds. Also favors the new amendments and takes the following actions: No one who belongs or did belong to a subversive party, organization or movement shall be eligible for any office. Also the district session favors the repeal cf the old rule by which members of the Sick Benefit department only shall be eligible to become delegates. The election of delegates took place with the election of Joseph Miller, Jr., Br. 59, and George Modock, Br. 33, as delegates to the National Convention, with Joseph Toth, Br. 59, and Joseph Thomas, Br. 33, as alternate delegates. There being no further proposals, the elected delegates were instructed to work in harmony for the advancement of our Association. Mr. Joseph Thomas adjourned the meeting. JOSEPH MILLER, JR„ District Secretary. DISTRICT 13 Daisytown, Pa. Minutes taken at the meeting of District 13, held in the Daisytown Hungarian Home on June 25, 1951. 1.) District President Alexander Debreczeni, Sr., calls the meeting tO' order at 10 a.m., warmly welcomes the delegates and calls for the presentation of the credentials. Present are the following branch-representatives: Stephen Ivan of Br. 7, Daniel Matto of Br. 16, Stephen Roczey of Br. 43, John Grega of Br. 57, Alexander Debreczeni, Sr., and Alexander Haydu of Branch 85, John Pásztor of Br. 150, Ambrosius Nagy of Br. 312, Valentine Virovecz of Br. 341, Coloman Gazsi of Br. 348, Joseph Domonkos of Br. 389, Emery Salamon of Br. 399. Altogether 11 branches were represented by 12 delegates. No delegates were sent by branches 101, 408, 478 and 548. 2.) District President calls for the reading of the minutes of the last district session. The minutes of the meeting held on November 30, 1947, were unanimously approved and signed by Joseph Domonkos (Br. 389) and Alexander Hajdú, (Br. 85). 3.) The circular letter from the Home Office is read. The first resolution adopted by the Board of Directors at the last meeting was approved. The meeting decided that the 4th and 5th paragraph in the resolutions of the Board of Directors, adopted at the meeting held on April 2, 1951, shall remain as heretofore. 4.) It was moved, seconded and carried by the meeting that applications be printed in the old form, in the Hungarian and English language. 5.) In regards to the proposed By-Laws the meeting resolves that the text of the second paragraph in Section 23 be retained. 6.) The meeting re-elected Alexander Debreczeni, Sr., District President, Stephen Ivan, Vice-President and Daniel Matto District Secretary. 7.) As delegates to the National Convention the meeting elected Alexander Debreczeni, Sr., by 11 votes, Danniel Matto by 10 votes, and Stephen Ivan by 10 votes. Alternates: John Grega, 7 votes, Emery Salamon 6 votes and John Pásztor 6 votes. 8.) The next district meeting will be held in the Daisytown Hungarian Home. 9.)
