Majority Approves Proposed Amendments Up to the closing date of this issue the Minutes of 256 branches, repre­senting a total of 41,684 members, have been received at the Home Office. Still outstanding are the election results of the rest of the branches represent­ing 3,605 votes. The total membership in the Senior Order represents 47,289 votes. The votes received are distributed as follows: Number of votes cast in favor of approving in full the amendments to the By-Laws proposed by the Board of Directors: 24,354. Number of votes cast in favor of partly approving the proposed amend­ments to the By-Laws: 9,579. Number of votes cast in favor of rejecting the proposed amendments to the By-Laws: 7,751. Those having voted in favor of approving the proposed amendments to the By-Laws in full representing more than half of the entire number of votes in the Senior Order, the majority of the branches appear having declared themselves in favor of amending the By-Laws as proposed by the Board of Directors. . March 21- 1951______________________________ Journal PAGE 3 NEW DISTRICT MANAGER APPOINTED TO CLEVELAND WEST SIDE BRANCH 45 Emery Sobony, Jr. assumed charge of District Office in February. Members of Branch 45, Cleveland, O., West Side, are notified herewith of the appointment of District Manager Emery Sobony, Jr., who assumed charge of the District Office at 3609 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland 13, O., in the presence of the officers of the Branch, on Monday, February 19th. The office hours effective heretofore will be maintained and the members of Branch 45 are cordially invited to avail themselves of the facilities and services at their disposal at the District Office, telephone ATJantic 1-5777. When the office is closed, messages for the District Manager may be left for him at his home, telephone ATlantic 1-0921. It is hardly necessary to introduce District Manager Emery Sobony, Jr., to cur Cleveland membership. He is a native of Cleveland and his father is a well known Cleveland West Side businessman. District Manager Mr. Sobony is a professional insurance man who resigned his former employment with a' large insurance company to accept the appointment to this position with the Verhovay. He speaks Hungarian, too, which the older members will find helpful when availing themselves of his services. District Manager Emery Sobony, Jr., was warmly received by the officers of Branch 45 to whom he was introduced by Field Manager Henry Rettmann. They pledged him their wholehearted cooperation and support and we urge the members of Branch 45 to follow the example of their elected officials in co­operating with their new District Manager whose wide experience and know­how in all insurance matters, as well as his courtesy and sincere friendliness, assures them of efficient service and utmost consideration on his part. Cordially welcoming District Manager Emery Sobony, Jr., to our growing staff of professional field workers, we wish him the best of success and a splendid and rewarding future in his new position. THE HOME OFFICE. TRENTON BRANCHES INVITE EASTERN BOWLERS TO BALL — Bowlers’ Dance on March 31st in Trenton Hungarian Home to be preceded by New York —- Trenton Matchgame at 2 p.m. — Branches 13 and 417 of Trenton, New Jersey, extend a cordial invitation to all bowlers in New York, New Brunswick and Philadelphia, to a “Bowlers’ Ball” to be held on Saturday, March 31st, in the Trenton Hungarian Hall, Genesee and Hudson St. The famous Géczi orchestra has been engaged to furnish the music at this dance, admission to which will be 75 cents. William Miklovits is the chairman and Miss Florence Lassan the co­­chairman of the Committee in charge of the arrangements. Bowlers and their friends will be assured of a splendid evening of fun, entertainment and good fellowship. Preceding the evening dance, a match-game will be held between the Ver­hovay bowling teams of New York and Trenton. The matchgame starts at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. We hope that this dance, to be held for the benefit of our bowling teams, will be well attended by the members of Branches 13 and 417 sponsoring this event, as well as by the bowlers and our many good friends from the branches in the eastern area. Branch 48 DINNER AND DANCE Branch 48 will give a dinner and dance on Saturday, April 21, 1951, beginning at 8 p.m., at the Hungarian Reformed Church Hall on 116th St., in New York City. Admission will be: §1.75. All members of Branch 48 and their friends are cordially invited to this event at which an excellent din­ner and splendid entertainment will be offered to our guests. VERHOVAY DAY On Sunday, June 24th, a Verhovay Day will be held by Branch 48 at the Bronx Magyar Park to which not only the members of Branch 48, but all the members and friends of the nearby branches are cordially invited and it is hoped that our fellow­­members in these branches will avail themselves of the opportunity to be­come better acquainted with the New York membership. Splendid entertain­ment has been provided for the Ver­hovay Day in the Bronx Magyar Park at which it is hoped that Na­tional President John Bencze, invited by the Branch, also will honor us with his presence. Branch 174 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT All members of Branch 174, Scran­ton. Pa., are notified herewith that Mr. Joseph Cibolya, Manager, has found it necessary to resign due to serious, prolonged illness that prevents him from continuing his managerial serv­ices. The Home Office regretfully ac­cepted his resignation and extends to him sincere best wishes for his re­covery and retirement after many years of service with the Association. The resignation of Mr. Cibolya ne­cessitates a complete reorganization of Branch 174 due to the fact that' the membership of this branch, scat­tered over an area over forty miles in diaméter, could not be efficiently served by one man. Hereafter, members residing in SCRANTON, THROOP, DUNMORE, DICKSON CITY AND FACTORY­­VILLE shall constitute Branch 174 of Scranton, Pa. Kuti of 1950, is the educational background of Private First Class Joseph Stephen Kuti, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gáspár Kuti, who entered military service on October 2nd, 1950. He took basic training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, and now is stationed at the Hq. Squadron S.A. A.M.A. Kelly. Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. A member of Branch 278, Omaha, Nebraska, Joseph S. Kuti comes from a family of high standing Verhovayans. The Kuti’s have done a great deal in establishing the Verhovay in Omaha, the last out­post of the Association in the middle west.
