BRANCHES ACTING ON PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE BY-LAWS In accordance with the provosions of the By-Laws as amended by the 1947 National Convention, the pro- [ posed amendments to the By-Laws Í had been submitted by the Board of i Directors to every Branch for action. The resolutions of the branches will be tabulated and the complete count of the votes will be published in the j Journal in the near future. In the I meantime, we are publishing in this j column the minutes of only those branch-meetings which propose a- j mendments other than those included in these submitted by the Board of Directors and the Home Office, and i those containing election results and other branch matters in addition to the action on the proposed amend- ! ments. MT. HOPE, W. VA. Branch 25 ANNUAL MEETING All members of Branch 25 are j urged to attend the annual meeting j to be held on January 21. Officers I and the delegates to the district sessions are to be elected on this occasion. At the same time every member is urged to pay his monthly dues no later than the 20th of each month !in order that the manager may be enabled to complete his monthly report in time. Dues paid after the 20th of the month will be remitted only in the following month. JAMES SZUCH, Manager. SHARON, PA. Branch 26 ANNUAL MEETING At the annual meeting of Branch 26 the following officers were elected: Stephen Dobozi, President, Gabriel Felier, Manager, 152 Chestnut St., Wheatland, Pa., mailing address RD 1, Sharon, Pa., telephone 2-6788. The members of Branch 26 are requested to attend the monthly meetings and not to leave, after having paid their dues, before the business session. There are too many members who won’t even bring their dues to the monthly meetings so that the manager is obliged to make several calls at each home for the collection of dues. This takes the manager’s time away from the other tasks necessary f or successful branch management. Our meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. It will be sincerely appreciated if the fellow-members will cooperate with the manager by paying their dues at the meetings and, then, staying for the business sessions. STEPHEN DOBOZI, President. GABRIEL FEHER, Manager. DETROIT, MICH. Branch 36 ANNOUNCEMENT All members of Branch 36 are urged to attend a special meeting callgjd for Sunday,, Januar,y 21, beginning at 2 p.m., at the former Verhovay Hall, for the purpose of acting upon the amendments to the By- Laws proposed by the Board of Directors. Due to the importance of Shis matter the presence of the membership is required on this occasion. The regular monthly meetings of (Continued on page 3) Dividends To Be Paid On Membership Certificates Issued After January 1, 1949 (Continued from page 1) bership, then they would appreciate the extremely low cost of their insurance protection which automatically eliminates any claims to further refunds in the form of dividends. The situation of the members who have joined since January 1, 1949, is entirely different. The pro-rata share of increased management expenses have been included in the rates they were required to pay. The investment returns on the part of their dues set aside for the mortuary fund had been computed on a realistic basis. And in view of the fact that the actual investment earnings of the Association have exceeded the then assumed rate of interest, it is possible now to pay dividends on these certificates. Let’s keep in mind, however, that these members pay substantially higher rates than those who had joined previously and, therefore, they are first entitled to dividends which, over a period cf years, will substantially decrease the cost of their insurance protection. This, of course, does not mean that the older members will never again receive dividends. If the investment market will improve assuring higher earnings, and if the volume of new business will increase resulting in a membership much larger than at the present, it may become possible to pay dividends even to those whose insurance rates had been computed on the basis of a higher interest rate assumption. This explains why the holders of the 2Vz% membership certificates will be the first ones to receive dividends. The first checks will be mailed during February after which checks will be issued to each and every 2%% membership certificate holder attaining the second anniversary of the date of issue of his certificate.
