Members will be notified by mail of the time and place. Refreshments will be served after the business sessions. » PERSONALS On or about the seventh day of October, 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kalikan are expecting a blessed event. Two times before, the Almighty, in his Infinite Wisdom, has seen fit to call children of the Kalikan’s to their reward: twins born to the couple died a few hours after birth; sometime later, a seven year old daughter was embraced by God as a victim of spinal meningitis. We now hope and pray that in His Wisdom, God will bless this couple with their just enrichment, a child- to be cherished and loved on earth. As fellow members of the Verhovay, let us dedicate our prayers to the anticipated event and lend material encouragement to the Kalikan’s by dropping them a, card at 4105 Dakpark Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. NEWS CONTRIBUTIONS Anyone wishing to make contributions to our column regarding births, engagements, marriages, deaths, etc. should send their information to L. F. Sarkozy, 3609 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland 13, Ohio, on or before the first of the month. Suggestions for a title of our column would be appreciated since “Towncrier” is only tentative. Fraternally, L. Your Health From the Medical Society of the State of Pennsylvania and the .Allegheny County Medical Society “Whee — I feel like a kid again!” * * * A few minutes later gentle hands were loosening the collar of this nice old gentleman who was flat on his back and breathing heavily. * * * Why must adults try to act like kids? * * * It is a wonderful thing to be young in thought, but that does not mean that one is young in body — especially if he is around fifty. * * * Few persons are exceptions to the normal aging process. ¥ * ¥ Yet on thousands of golf courses and tennis courts you will find middleaged folks frolicking with niblick or racket and believing they are just about as good physically as they were at twenty. ¥ * ¥ As the day progresses, these oldsters present a sad sight as they drag wearily around, faces flushed There are, of course, exceptions to the general rule — men and women who play steadily throughout the year and manage to remain in good physical condition. ¥ * ¥ To illustrate the fatal effects of exercise in persons unaccustomed to it, one only has to read the newspapers. * * * “Fred Heffner Died While Mowing Lawn.” * ¥ * “George Preman Collapses on Golf Course.” * sjs * “Fat Man’s Race at Picnic Fatal to Cy Marks.” * * * These are the recorded cases — and consider the unpublicized damage to hearts strained by foolish exercise. *= % * Persons beyond middle age need to decrease their bodily exertions. ¥ * ¥ Moderate exercise, properly planned by the family physician, is the bodily exercise Mr. Middle Age should indulge in. * * * Too many men, just at the age of best production and judgment, drop over from undue strain on the heart. DO YOU KNOW? More than seventy per cent of children whose parents are stout will be overweight. JOHN SABO, National Auditor. H1FALUTIN LANGUAGE A rich old aunt was paying her nephew’s college expenses, and her visitor asked her if it was expensive. “Well,” said7 the aunt, “language runs pretty high. My check this month covered $10 for English, $20 for Latin, and $110 for Scotch.” IN A BAD WAY Teacher: “What is a ‘deficit,’ Johnny?” Johnny: “That’s what you’ve got when you haven’t got as much as when you had nothing.” NATURALLY A bus driver was filling- out a report about a highway breakdown. When he came to the line “Disposition of Passengers,” he wrote: “Mad as hornets.” The little girl’s mother sent her to the druggist to get something to stop palpitation. By the time the child had reached the pharmacy, she had forgotten what she was sent for, and when the” druggist asked her what she wanted, she thought for several minutes and then said, “Mother needs something that will stop population.”
