March 15, 1950 Verhovay Journal PAGE 5 March 31 Deadline For Filing Tournament Entry Applications Two more weeks to deadline date. Don’t forget, all of you bowlers wherever you live, in the West, the East; the North or the South, applications for Tournament Entry MUST be filed NO LATER than by MIDNIGHT, MARCH 31st, 1950. It was the unanimous demand of the BOWLERS’ REPRESENTATIVES, the bowling team captains in the 1950 Tournament City, that the deadline be strictly enforced and no exceptions be made. The applications, properly completed, must be accompanied by the average sheets, and the entry tees in full, on check, draft, or money order made payable to no other than The Verhovay Sports Fundi The entry blanks should be mailed not to Pop Diliinger, our Tournament Secretary, but to Mr. John Sabo, National Auditor, Verhovay Building, 436 Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh 19, Pa. We hope that by the time ^his edition reaches our readers all teams will have written to the Home Office for their entry blanks. Any team not having applied yet for the entry blanks should do so immediately, without a moment’s delay, because if you miss the deadline — you’ll miss the tournament and let there be no mistake about it. To all indications this will be a very big tournament. The number of applications already ordered by several team-sponsoring branches shows a definite increase in various leagues. And, what’s more, several new branches are entering the field this year! It almost looks as if the number of actual entries would not only come up to, but even exceed our fondest expectations.-!* •> •* But be sure to file applications for entry, together with average sheets and-full payments of entry fees no later than March 31st, 1950. ■'f Otherwise, there isn’t mueh in the way of news. Two orchestras have been engaged for this event. One will play dance music in the ballroom, the other the old. lovely gypsy tunes in the “Night of Budapest.” The banquet menu has been published several times. It won’t be repeated here. Be it sufficient to say that the guests will have an unusually large choice in various delicious dishes, all of them to be prepared by excellent cooks. Anything a bowler’s heart'may desire will be on the tables ... If you like baked beans, just say so. It’s on the menu. For „hose of discriminating tastes, there will be cfioices of ham, turkey, pork. Provided, of course, that your entry blanks, average sheets and remittances for entry fees in full will be in the mails no later than Saturday, March 31st, 1950, midnight. •„V : - ' * * Hotel reservations? Visiting with each other will be easy, because the hotels are within easy walking distance. And it takes only a minute or two to walk from any of the hotels to the CHAMPION RECREATION ALLEYS where the Tournament will be held. Nor will any of yo.u be uncertain as to the time at which you are scheduled to bowl. The complete schedules will be mailed to all captains one month ahead ol the Tournament date. „ s * * Provided, of course, that your applications for entry, average sheets and entry fees in full will be in the mails no later than midnight, March 31st. 1950. •-:< i*c No one will be expected to go hungry during the Tournament. There are any number of eating places near the Tournament theatre, including the place itself, heeause the Champion is equipped with a good bar and a fine kitchen. However, those who like Hungarian cooking, will want to have their meals on Saturday, and on Sunday at noon, at the Kálvin Hall where the ladies of the Hungarian Evangelical and Reformed Church will be ready „o feed any number of guests, \yhat with busses and cabs available for the short trip, it won’t involve any loss of time at all to go out there and enjoy the host cooking there is. This is a special service to be rendered by the Hungarian Ev. and Ref. Church to the National Verhovay Ten-Pin Tournament. * # *. So, if you want to enjoy the best meals of your life, be sure to have your applications for entry, the average sheets and the entry fees in the mails no later than midnight, Saturday, March 31st, 1950. :J* * -F On the big night, on Sunday, May 28, there will De splendid entertainment. * The lacl: of speeches will be a special feature by courtesy of ihe National Executive Committee, instead, there will be dancing, dancing, dancing . . . md dancing . . . Speaking of the campaign, we are glad to report that bowling teams are doing a grand job of cooperation. Some of the teams have even responded to our repeated appeals for early remittances and partial accounts. As usually. South Bend is in the lead . . . Remember now, the campaign is still running. In fact, it should -eally start running at increasing speed as of this moment. Ten more weeks co go . . . that’s plenty. The world was created in six days; will our bowlers nfid branchmanagers be able to carry the campaign to a smashing success in the ten weeks before us? They certainly will. However, let us have your partial acj counts mere frequently during this period. No estimate can be made of „he size of the Tournament purse without some data on how the campaign is proceeding. And remember: orders for additional supplies will be, oh, -ooo cheerfully I filled. By return mail, too . . . :je. * :Je But the most important thing right now is this: mail those applieatons for entry, together with the average sheets and payments in full of all entry fees to Mr. John Sabo, National Auditor, Verhovay Building, 136 Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh 19, Pa., NO LATER THAN MIDNIGHT. MARCH 31st, 1950. (At this point we suggest that you read the article “How Much Is Life Worth,” appearing in this issue. This article gives you a proper understanding of today’s insurance requirements and of how they can be met by the average wage earner.) 4. ) Review your insurance program, with the help of your branch manager, and let him suggest ways to improve your program. 5. ) Do act today, because tomorrow may be too late. Your branch manager is ready today, as always, to serve you. He is your friend. Invite him to see you today. With his help you will be taking the steps necessary to eliminate the uncertainty from your life. Remember the tragic words Mary Taylor cried: “IF ONLY HE HAD NOT WAITED!” T-DAY AHEAD Don’t let the weather fool you. May isn’t very far away. Like the baseball major leaguers who are in spring training, our local keglers are sharpening their bowling eyes and preparing for the big Verhovay Tournament. T-Day is approximately a little over two months away, so all you aspirants had better put the edge on your bowling. Joe Nagy’s “Aces,” the No. 1 team, are really in high hydramatic. At the rate they are zooming to new heights, they are bound to bring home some of the proverbial bacon, come tourney time. Tables turned: during the first half of the Southway Home League the aces were at the bottom of the ladder. Now they have climbed to the top and are riding the crest of the waves. The homeguard of the Southway “Home” League have been decimated so badly that the aces super numerarice went ahead of the entire field. While the aces were at the bottom, the second team was top. Now that the tables are turned, we of the second team are eating crow because of the many insults and abuses we have showered upon them.
