A $100,000 GARDEN PARTY Invited by Vice-President Dr. Andrew Kovács to a garden-party at his home in Cleveland for the discussion of plans for producing at least $100,000 new business this year at Branch 45, officers of the Branch not only oversubscribed the goal, but had a wonderful time, too. Sitting in the middle is Dr. Kovács, the host, an apparently inexhaustible source of prospects for the enthusiastic go-getters of Branch 45. Sitting with him are Branch-President Joseph Drotos and Comptroller John Mikula, both of whom will receive the Degree of Blustrious Member at a testimonial dinner to be given in their honor on Sunday, October 23rd, at 1 p.m., at the Slovene Hall, West Side, Cleveland. Standing are Mr. William Grosshandler, a recent émigré from Hungary where he was known as the nation’s leading insurance man, who within a fewr weeks has become Branch 45’s top producer, Mr. Charles Grundel, a devoted V erhovayan, Mr. Louis Bodnar, the well-known and popular West Side businessman, Mr. Eugene Pachtler, the former District Manager, and Mr. Louis Balogh, Recorder of the Entertainment Committee, the man who is always there where work is to be done for the Verhovay. These are the men who assist District Manager Elmer Mille (absent due to out-of-town business,) in his promotional task. A grand team whose enthusiastic cooperation assures the continued progress of Branch 45. If the officers of all other branches would take such active interest in the promotional work of the managers, the Association could easily acquire ten thousand new members each year. THREE GREAT FRATERNALISTS TO BE HONORED AT COLUMBUS BR. 129 TESTIMONIAL DINNER — Governor of Ohio, Mayor of Columbus, National Secretary of Verhovay to be present at gala event on Sunday, October 9th, honoring Joseph Fodor, Andrew Dobos and Anton Tankovich. — Three outstanding members of the Association will be honored at a testimonial dinner to be given by Branch 129, Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday, October 9th. beginning at 12:30 p.m., at the Croation Hall, 377 Reeb Street. In view of the great popularity of the men to be honored, it is expected that Verhovayans from many distant branches will be attracted by this unusual event. Messrs. Joseph Fodor, Andrew Dobos, Jr., and Anton Tankovich are the three men to whom tribute will be paid on this occasion in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the advancement of the Verhovay. Joseph Fodor, the former Assistant Attorney General of the State of Ohio, noted Columbus attorney, a member of the Verhovay, who has rendered invaluable assistance to Branch 129 especially in the acquisition of their Verhovay Home, and on many other occasions, will be presented a gift by the grateful Columbus membership. Andrew Dobos, Jr., former Director of the Association, who as the former manager of Branch 23, Pocahontas, Va., had done more than any other branch-officer for the advancement of the Association in the southern mining district of the Verhovay, will receive the Degree of Illustrious Member (formerly known as the “Verhovay Acknowledged” title), awarded to him by the Vice-President Macker Elected Chairman Of Board Of Directors At the opening session of the meeting of the Board of Directors, on Monday morning, September 12th, Vice-President Julius Macker was elected Chairmin of the Board, as the successor of the late chairman Albert B. CLEVELAND BR. 45 OFFICERS TO RECEIVE SERVICE AWARDS —-Joseph Drotos and John Mikula to be honored at Testimonial Dinner in Slovene Hall on October 23rd. — The presentation of the Verhovay Service Awards to Joseph Drotos and John Mikula by a representative of the Board of Directors will be the occasion for a testimonial banquet to be given by Branch 45 in honor of these two outstanding branch- I officers on Sunday, October 23rd, beginning at 1 p.m., in the Slovene Hall, on Dennison Avenue, West Side, Cleveland, Ohio. I An excellent Hungarian style dinner and fine entertainment will be provided for this event to which all members of Branch 45 as well as of every branch in the greater Cleveland area are cordially invited by the Entertainment Committee. Both Joseph Drotos and John Mikula are held in high esteem by the more than thousand members of Branch 45. Mr. Drotos is the President and Mr. Mikula the Comptroller of the branch which they have been serving for decades with untiring enthusiasm and fraternal devotion. Both have made important contributions to the rapid growth of Branch 45, to the development of a highly attractive social program and to the harmonious cooperation prevailing among the membership. Fully deserving of the honors bestowed upon them by the Board of Directors, it is expected that all members of Branch 45 will take part in the affair to demonstrate, thereby, their appreciation of the services rendered by these men to the membership of the Branch as well as to the Association as a whole. Board of Directors of the Association in recognition of his services as the member of the Board for 12 years. Anton Tankovich also is to be a recipient of the Degree of Illustrious Member, awarded to him by the Board of Directors in recognition of his outstanding contributions^and services to Branch 129 in various official capacities over a period of 24 years. The official scroll and the gold service medal with the inscription “Service and Loyalty” will be presented to Messrs. Dobos and Tankovich by National Secretary Coloman Revesz. Particular significance will be lent to this event by the presence of the Governor of Ohio, the Mayor of Columbus, and several other outstanding representatives of the people of the state. The Hon. Frank J. Lausche, Governor of the State of Ohio, has recently joined the Verhovay at Cleveland Branch 14, and, to our knowledge, this is to be the first Verhovay affair which he will attend as a member of the Association. No doubt, the members of Branch 129 will need no special invitation to attend the testimonial dinner. It is expected also that many other branches, particularly those in Ohio, will be well represented on this notable occasion. It is suggested, therefore, that members residing in other parts, who plan to attend the affair, advise of their intentions Mrs. Stephen Paul, Manager, 300 Hinman Ave., Columbus 7, Ohio.
