STEPHEN HORVATH, Mgr. DEARBORN, MICH. , Branch 429 FIRST MEETING OF 1949 The January meeting of Branch 429 was called to order by Branch- Manager Mrs. Jolán Lucas, in the absence of the President, George Boonie, and the Vice-President, John Fisher. The election of officers was the PAGE B first item on the schedule of business. (The list of the officers was published in the last edition of the Journal. The ommission of the name of Mrs. Julius Szalay from the sick visitors’ list is herewith corrected. Ed.) Following the elections, the usual run of business was attended to. The next important item on the schedule was “The Verhovay Crippled Children’s Fund.” This drive is made annually by the Home Office, fo>r providing medical treatment or rehabilitative training for Verhovay*s Crippled Juvenile members. February 21st, the birthday of the Association was set aside at the last Convention for this drive, and this is to be known as “Verhovay Charity Day”. Each and every member is urged to join in the drive, and to donate, no matter how small an amount. We will be giving some child a ‘new life’ by helping NOW! A collection was made and the members present, together with the Branch, contributed a total of $10. The discussion of the “Verhovay Bowling Tournament Booklet” followed. As we all know, Detroit is the city honorod for the 1949 Bowling Tournament, to be held over the Memorial Day weekend in May. A joint committee of all branches in the city and suburbs already has been organized and a big program is being planned for this great event. The booklet will be distributed on this occasion^ to the members, bowlers and guests present. A motion was made and seconded that Branch 429 buy a quarter page ad in the booklet, listing the officers’ names. The matter of new business was next on the schedule. Since there is a great deal of work involved in the writing up of cards for the following meeting, a motion was made and seconded that we provide the Branch- Manager with a stamp. William Horvath will inquire at various rubber stamp companies and render us a report in regards to the cost at the next meeting. All business matters having come to a satisfactory conclusion, the meeting was adjourned, after which the usual refreshments were served. At this time, we would like to thank Mrs. Daniel Rob (Mother Horvath) for the wonderful meal served at the end of the meeting. It was delicious and we certainly enjoyed it.
