1949 / Verhovay Journal

VOLUME XXXII. MARCH 16, 1949 NO. 3 NEARLY $4,000 - IN BIRTHDAY GIFTS FOR VERHOVAY’S CRIPPLED CHILDREN! — SOUTH BEND CONTRIBUTES ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. — U.S. SUPREME COURT JUSTICE HAROLD H. BURTON AMONG DONORS. — NEARLY TWO THOUSAND DONATIONS LISTED. — Almost a month has passed since February 21st, “Verhovay Charity Day,” the 63rd birthday of the Verhovay F. I. Association, but return envelopes containing additional donations are still being received each day at the Home Office. Possibly by next month the final result of •his year’s drive for the Verhovay Crippled Juvenile Members’ Fund can be announced, but at this time we are droud and thankful to report that up to March 7, 1949, a grand total of $3,945.32 has been received from 1,890 donors. We thank all members and friends of the Verhovay for their generous donations toward this fund which is intended to provide medical care or rehabilitative training for the crippled juvenile members of the Association. Though we are still far short of the $15,000 neede4 for putting the fund into operation, a substantial step has been made toward the attainment of this goal. And we hope that the continued generosity of our fellow-members as well as the donations yet to be received from those mailing their return envelopes at this late date, will bring us even nearer to our goal. Verhovay Charity Day has passed but our fraternal responsibility for our crippled juvenile fellow-members will remain with us. Each donation will advance the day on which the Association will be able to extend tits services to those unfortunate little ones whose helplessness is a challenge that we cannot fail to meet. The first list, containing 325 donations totalling $480.85 received up to and including February 7th, 1949, has been published in the last edition of the Journal. The following is the greater part of the list of donations received between February 8th and March 1st, 1949. Lack of space makes it impossible for us to publish in a single issue the 1,489 donations listed during this period. Tbe rest of the list, together with the donations received during March will appear in the April edition. Due to the great number of donations it was impossible to make this list in alphabetical order. The contributors are grouped according to amounts and each dcnor will find his name listed in the proper group. Donors not listed in this edition are requested to await the next issue of the Journal that will carry all contributions not included in the following list. * BIRTHDAY GIFTS TO THE CRIPPLED CHILDREN’S FUND $1,000 DONATION Branch 132, South Bend, Ind., Frank Wukovits, Dist.
