According to the original ruling entries were to be accepted •‘only from teams and individuals who are policyholders of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association with certificates dated prior to January 1, 1949.” Pursuant to the action of the National Executive Tournament Committee the following has been added to the above provision: “Entries from individuals joining after January 1, 1949, but not later than March 31st, will be accepted, provided that at least six months’ dues will be paid in advance by such individuals at the time application for membership is made.” Since the deadline date for mailing applications for tournament entry has been set at March 1,1949, midnight, the applications of those to be admitted to membership during March will be approved tentatively, pending subsequent admission to membership in the Verhovay. Any non-member registering for the tournament but failing to submit application for membership with six months’ dues paid in advance shall forfeit his entry fees and be barred from participation in the tournament. $4*000 — Guaranteed Minimum In Tourney Frizes — Final Prize List Pending Outcome Of Tournament Financing Campaign. — Shortly after New Year, colorful posters announcing the 6th Annual Verhovay-National Handicap Ten Pin Tournament cropped up all over the country wherever Verhovay branches operate. At least, we hope the posters have cropped up in a noticeable manner, exhibited conspicuously, as requested, for all the world to see. These posters definitely are for display and we respectfully urge all branchmanagers to exhibit them, preferably not in a rarely visited meeting room, but on some well frequented spot. This year’s poster is different in some details from that of the last tournament. Bowlers will be quick to notice that the amounts of the first prizes in the various events are not exhibited. This will be no surprise, however, since the bowling membership is well aware of the fact that the size of the tournament purse depends on the outcome of the financing campaign launched in the early part of last November. Still, this uncertainty will not rob any of the participants-tobe of their sleep, for assurances had been given that the prizes will compare favorably with those awarded at the last tournament. This is further affirmed by the following notation appearing on the tournament poster: “Guaranteed Minimum Of $4,000 In Prizes and Trophies,” which is far above the amount guaranteed in previous years. Naturally, as heretofore, awards will be made for the several places in the team event, the two man event, the individual event, and all events, and for the high single and three games in the various events. Verhovay National Champions will be recognized on the basis of actual scores without handicap and they will receive suitable awards. The Frank Brogley Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the Verhovay National Champion Team in both the Men’s and Women’s Division (on the basis of actual scores without handicap), while cash prizes will be awarded on the basis of actual scores plus handicap. Much thought has been given by the National Executive Tournament Committee to the matter of trophies. It was suggested that instead of the usual trophies serving merely decorative purposes, useful articles of artistic design and of more than sentimental value be awarded. After inspecting a great number of such articles now on the market, the Committee tentatively agreed to adopt this policy. We would welcome, however, hearing from our bowlers, especially (Continued on page 8)
