Journal __________________________________________ NEWS From The Field MAYNARD, O. Branch 5 ANNIVERSAR! MESSAGE The following members have been elected by acclamation for the. 51st year of Branch 5’s activities: John Kovach, President, Frank Sabo, sick visitor and Julius Shadi, Manager. May I also on behalf of . our members thank Misses Josephine and Ann Csajka for the many favors extended by them to Branch 5, especially for permitting us the free use of their storeroom for our meetings. I am sure that they are doing this not only in memory of their late father, the founder of Branch 5, Paul Csajka, who passed on to his eternal reward in 1924, but also because they know the real meaning of fraternaiism. Would to God we had many more members like them throughout the land of the Verhovay . . . They always are willing to give a helping hand, even when others refuse. Josephine still can smile after having- been ill, most of the time bedridden, for the past two years. It takes pournge to go through everything she had to endure and still take care of her good mother who also has been ill for the past few years, while her sister, Ann, is away from home, managing the grocery store they have owned and operated for the last 40 years. Indeed, the members of Branch 5 owe a great deal to the Csajka girls and their mother and had it not been for the late Paul Csajka and his family, Branch 5 would not have observed its golden anniversary on December 11th, 1947. A long-long time has passed since that 11th of December in 1897 when Paul Csajka and his Verhovay companions organized this branch. Little did they realize that they were erecting a monument ‘to themselves, because they will always remain not only with us, the members of Branch 5, but also in the hearts of Vcrhovayans everywhere. After all, it was Branch 5 that began the real expansion of the Verhovay across the United States. Up to that time, during the first 11 years of its existence, the Verhovay had only 4 branches in the vicinity of Hazleton. Ours was the first branch to the west of the coal-fields in central Pennsylvania, the first branch in Ohio, the first outpost in the midwest, and as such, actually the mother of all subsequently organized branches. .May it still be active when After reviewing the amendments adopted at the Convention, District 35 rejevted the modifications adopted by the convention. Four voted for the rejection. After this vote the meeting was closed. District 35 voted to hold the next session in Caseyville, 111. This was approved by the attending delegates. Frank BALOGH, chairman, MATTHEW HORVATH, Secretary. This concludes the Proceedings of the District Sessions. The tabulation of the 148 votes cast by the 60 electoral districts of the Association, reveals the following final results: 135 votes were cast in favor of, and 13 opposed to, the ratification of the amendments to the By-laws adopted by the National Convention. As a result, the amendments have been ratified by the overwhelming majority representing more than 90% of the electoral districts. December 31, 1947 _________________v______________ the Verhovay will have branches in every state of the Union-On behalf of the members of Branch 5 I wish a speedy recovery to our sick members: Miss Josephine Csajka. Mrs. Matthias Paulovits, William Safw, Coloman Sabo and Lois Majoros who suffered a most Unfortunate accident resulting in a triple ankle fracture, and, last but not least, Mrs. Paul Csajka, the mother of Josephine and Ann. At this time I wish also tó extend my best wishes to Verhovayans everywhere, and especially to the member:; of Branch 5, and their loved ones, for a joyous Christinas and a blessed New Year of dreams come true . . .
