November 12, 1947 NEWS From The Field 45TH ANNIVERSARY LORAIN, 0. Branch 17 The 45th anniversary of the founding of Branch 17, Lorain, O., will be observed on Sunday, November 23rd. A banquet, to be followed by a dance, with music furnished by the popular Szilvassv orchestra, will be held on this occasion, beginning at 6 KM., in the hall of the Reformed Church. The district congressman and officials of the City of Lorain already have accepted the invitation of the committee to this great affair. In view of war-time conditions, Branch 17 has held no social affairs during the last years. It is hoped, therefore, that the members of Branch 17 and the sister branches will heed the invitation to the anniversary dinner and dance, and help make it as successful an affair as those held in pre-war years by Branch 17 always have been. Branch 17 has travelled a long way since that day 45 years ago when a handful of Verhovay’s members decided to raise the banner of Verhovay fraternalism in the city of Lorain. With a membership of 870, Branch 17 looks back upon the past 45 years with pride and satisfaction, for each of these years had been marked by progress, success and service to the membership as well as the causes of fraternalism. We hope that every member of our great Branch will reserve the day of November 23rd for his Branch and attend the celebration of its 45th anniversary as a tribute to the oldest and largest American Hungarian fraternal society and its 45 year old branch in Lorain. Branches in other communities, planning to send their representatives to this affair, are requested to notify the Branch-manager of their decision.
