Both are members of Branch 525. 3.) The discussion of the amendments of the By-laws fol­lows and the following actions are taken: “In paragraph 3 “250” shall appear instead of “300”. Should the membership of any District increase, one additional delegate shall ibe elected for, every . 250 members. Adopted against one dissenting vote. The following shall be omitted from §4: “has been a member of the sick benefit department for two years”, and “Only American born members, or those who have received their education in Ame­rican schools and who are in good standing are eligible to be representatives in the English speaking Districts.” Also to be omitted: “A mem­ber who has a contract with the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association from which he de­rives his main income is ineligible to become a delegate.” District 30/B recommends that such mem­bers, also, shall be eligible, with the stipulation that they shall not vote in any questions af­fecting their official activities. District 30/B recommends the omission from §10, q) of the following provision: “In matters of unavoidable necessity and where delay would cause irre­parable loss the Board of Di­rectors may act even if such mat­ters are reserved for action by the Convention.” This shall be replaced with the folowing: “the matter shall be submitted to a vote by the Convention dele­gates.” Adopted against one dis­senting vote. The provision in §26: “Men and women after having passed the ages of 55 and before having reached the age of 60 shall be eligible for not more than Five Hundred dollars death benefit”, shall be amended to read: “. . . not more than $1,000 death be­nefit in one of the limited time payment classes.” Adopted against one dissenting vote. The provision in §33: “but the accidental death benefit shall never exceed the sum of $1,000” shall be amended to read: “shall never exceed the face-value of the certificate”. Adopted by five votes against one dissenting vote. The provision in §35: “male members who are not over 45 years of age and female members not over 40 years of age may become members of Class 2,” shall be amended to read: “male members who are not over 50 years of age and female mem­bers who are not over 45 years of age may become members of Class 2.” “$15 childbirth benefits” in §39 shall be amended to read “$25 childbirth benefits.” “To appear unheralded at the Home Office twice every year to examine the management” in §45, shall be amended to read: “once every year”. “Shall be published once every week in the Hungarian language and twice a month in the Eng­lish language” shall be amended to read: “once a month in the Hungarian and once a month in the English language”. District 30/B requests that the dividends withheld in 1944 and 1945 be issued by the Association and that larger dividends be de­clared than in 1946. It is requested, also, that the dues’ relief granted to the aged and needy members of the As­sociation be increased. It is recommended that the presently granted educational loans be replaced with scholar­ships amounting to $200 each, to be granted to 25 students every year. The continued suport of the Hungarian summer schools is re­commended. The Association shall discon­tinue its membership in, and withdraw its financial support from the American Hungarian Federation. Los Angeles being the farther­most outpost of the Association, it is recommended that a Ver­hovay Home be built, or pur­chased, there with the assistance of the Home Office, for the fur­therance of Verhovay’s progress in California. The delegates of District 30/B are instructed to recommend the changing of the name of the As­sociation. There being no further busi­ness the meeting proceeds to the election of the delegates to the national convention. Leo Fischer and Alexander Gyulay, of Branch 525, are elected delegates and Mary (Serflek) Hegedűs, of Branch 525, and Andrew Heim, of Branch M.61, are elected al­ternate delegates. Expenses totalling $117.50 were incurred by the district meeting. Thanking the delegates for their interest in the business of the Association, the President closes the meeting. The district meeting of Branch 17, Lorain, O., was held on June 6th, 1947, with chairman Nicholas Beregszászi presiding and Man­ager George Jávor recording the proceedings. 26 members were present. George Jávor and Ni­cholas Beregszászi were elected delegates to the National Con­vention and Josepr Dovak and Frank Pagacs alternate delegates. In reference to the amend­ments of §3 of the By-laws the District recommends that the number of members constituting an electoral district be increased from 300 to 400 and that any member of both the life insurance and sick benefit classes be held eligible as representative to the National Convention. District 21 recommends that medical certificates of O.D. phy­sicians be honored as those of M.D., physicians.
