In connection with the report of the Committee, the Board announces that in the future, eventual printing bills are to be attached to the accounts showing the expenses of the District Sessions. 21) Financial Committee: Directors Falussy, Dr. Prince report that they examined the investments of the Association, and determined that the Supreme Treasurer with every investment, took into consideration the recommendations of the Moody Investment Service Company and kept in mind the best interests of our Association. After hearing the report, the Board announces that the recommendations of the Moody Investment Service are to be taken into consideration in the future also and in the event that the purchase of certain Railroad bonds should appear advantageous, the Supreme Treasurer purchase same. The resolution relative to the purchase of the Railroad Bonds was made with one dissenting vote. 22) The Board authorizes the Home Office to have the Association’s Actuary amortize the bonds. 23) The Organizing Committee: Kelemen, Korosfoy and Turner, reports that they reviewed the contracts made with the District Organizers and they established that the contracts of Buchter and Toth have not as yet been received by the Home Office. They report that they examined the various agreements made with the representatives of the Association and found them in accord with the resolutions brought at the January meeting. The Board approves the report of the Committee. 24) The House Committee: Ari, Brogley, Macker, reports that they have examined the appeals received by the Board and that they will make their motions to the Board regarding them. After being acquainted with the contents of the appeals, the Board decides the following: a) The appeal of District Organizer Michael Simo, in reference to the case of the Cleveland Verhovay office, cannot be complied with by the Board, because first and foremost, this matter belongs under the jurisdiction of Branch 14. b) The appeals of Branch 141 of Ell wood City, Pennsylvania and the local Hungarian Club, relative to the taking-over of the Hungarian Home, cannot be complied with by the Board, considering the excess purchase price. c) The appeals of Branches 229 and 353 of Indiana Harbor, Indiana, relative to the remodelling of the Verhovay Home, can be adequately decided upon by the Board, only after viewing the premises. This decision was made with one dissenting vote. d) In the matter of the Detroit Home, the Board deems it desirable to urge the installments on the debt, as well as the taking of the necessary action, so that the realization on the investment may be increased. They entrust the handling of the Home to Directors Macker and Phillips; Stephen Lukacs and Jolán Lucas, members of the Auditing Committee as well as to one member each, from Branches 36, 356, 388, 429 and 443. e) In the case of the Cleveland Home, the Board directs the House Committee to review the affairs of the Home there on the premises and to make a detailed report of such review at the September meeting. f) In the case of the Medina, Ohio Home of Branch 170, since this is also the request of the members of the Branch, the Board announces that the Home should be put up for sale through a local real estate office there. 25) The Board authorizes the Home Office to extend the rental of the present Home Office to December 31, 1944. 26) The Board hears the representatives of the Moody Investment Service Company, Mr. Page 6 ________________________________________ Baar and Mr. Ivemy, they giving a detailed report on present economic conditions and the possibilities for investment apparent now. 27) The House Committee submits the detailed plans for the remodelling of the building purchased for a Home Office. The Board accepts the plans. At five o’clock in the afternoon, the Supreme President adjourns the meeting until nine o’clock of the following morning. Minutes — Continued Taken on March 16, 1944, The same ones are present. At nine o’clock in the morning, the Supreme President opens the meeting and orders the reading of the Minutes taken on the previous day, which are accepted and certified by the Board. 28) The Board requests the Branches possessing Verhovay Homes, that in the future, they attach a yearly accounting and a copy of the Minutes of the year’s final meeting to their report and submit the whole to the Home Office so that the Board may review all these at the March meeting. 29) The Board keeps in effect further, the conditions governing sports allotments and directs the Home Office to prepare the alignment of the Directorial District. 30) Mr. E. T. Knodel, Actuary appears before the Board, to tender orally also, the matter which he had already submitted to the heads of the Association. 31) In accordance with the decision of the passed Convention the Board modifies the conditions governing the monthly dues assistance issued from the Verhovay Fund. One of the conditions heretofore has been that a member is entitled to assistance only if he has taken out the full Loan value of his policy. In the future, if the reserve value of a member’s policy is equivalent to the amount of his one year’s dues, he will be issued the monthly dues assistance, if he has complied with the other requirements. 32) The Board adopts and ratifies the Supreme Officers’ reports in detail also. 33) In the matter submitted by Branch 14 of Cleveland, Ohio, the Board announces that salary of ex-Supreme President Joseph Darago from the date of his resignation, September 9th, 1943 to the end of the year, was issued by them in accordance with the regulations. The ex-Supreme President asked for the acceptance of his resignation, giving as his reason therefor, his illness. , According to our By-Laws, Supreme Officers, Directors and members of the Auditing Committee are entitled to their salaries is case of illness within one year. For this reason, the matter submitted by Branch 14 is noted. 34) Branch 226 of McKeesport, Pennsylvania turned to the Convention in the case of their ill Branch Secretary, Geza Pavuk. The Conventiin turned the appeal over to the Board. The Board appreciates the merits of Secretary Geza Pavuk, but in spite of this fact, they are unable to comply with the request. 35) The motion of Branch 248 of Logan, West Virginia, that the price of a Liberty Ship be subscribed from the membership of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association, is adopted by the Board with thanks and it entrusts the Home Office to take care of the arrangements, so that the noble thought may be carried out during the Fifth War Bond Campaign. 36) Member Arthur Zeiger, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, calls upon the Board in the matters of a cooperative Kossuth University as well as the change of name for our Association. The worthy thought of the university, during the present war conditions, is not deemed feasible at this time by the Board. The matter of a change of name belongs under the jurisdiction of the Convention. ____Verhovay Journal -------37) Andrew Duch, member of Branch 13, appeals for the cancellation of the monthly dues of members over eighty years of age. The Board is unable to comply with the request. 38) George Piskura, member of Branch 261, referring to his inability to work, requests the cancellation of his monthly dues. The Board, in spite of the fact that they sincerely sympathize with the difficult situation of the appellant, cannot comply with the request. 39) Nicholas Kadar, member of Branch 14, requests the cancellation of the interests on his Loan. The Board does not have the authority to make any changes in the By-Laws and for this reason they cannot comply with the request. 40) Alexander Geczy, member of Branch 374 again turns to the Board in a matter which has already been investigated and settled. After a detailed discussion of the matter submitted, the Board orders the case taken off the day’s schedule. 41) The Board cannot comply with the requests of Dr. Ladislaus Polya of Cleveland, Ohio. 42) The appeal of the San Francisco Council of Churches, that we should contribute towards the expenses of a “Mobile Chapel,” cannot be complied with by the Board. 43) Joseph Lokos, member of Branch 386 turns to the Board with a complaint, that the Home Office removed him from the Sick Benefit Department after having reinstated him therein. After becoming acquainted with the details of the case, the Board decides that the Home Office acted in accordance with the rules and regulations and for that reason, ratifies the action. 44) Branch 514 of Youngstown, Ohio, directs a question to the Board in the matter of members belonging to the Sick Benefit Department, who have returned from Military Service. The Board announces, that if the members returning from Military Service live up to the conditions governing reinstatement, they may be reinstated into their original rights and inasmuch as they were members of the Sick Benefit Department before January 1, 1944, their Sick Benefit insurance will not expire when they become 65 years of age. 45) On the basis of the documents received, the Board remembers with sincere gratitude those Branch Officers, who with their unselfish work through many decades, have deserved the Verhovay “Acknowledged” honorary title, the silver medal and testimonial which goes with it. This honor is bestowed by the Board upon Louis Kocsis, our fellow-member, Recording Secretary of Branch 121. To the President of Branch 108, Andrew Debroczky; Joseph Juhasz Treasurer; Branch Secretary Joseph Turner and Joseph Batta, Manager of Hubbard. At Branch 87 in Passaic, N. J., to Paul Szabó, Secretary. 46) Convention District No. 17 requests the Board to retain even those members in the Junior Order who have already attained sixteen years of age. Though the Board deems the request of some merit, nevertheless they cannot comply with the request because it is not only contrary to the rules and regulations but in direct opposition to the Insurance Laws. 47) The New Jersey Fraternal Congress asks that our Association join it. The Board complies with the request and announce that in the future, the Association will become a member of the New Jersey Fraternal Congress. 48) Rev. B. Dienes, reformed minister of Chicago, Professor at Amherst College, personally states his appeal that the Board vote three April 13, 1944
