Page 12 Verhovay ak SPORT PAGE----------------Lapja November 27, 1941 CONTINUED VERHOVAY LADIES’ AUXILIARY BOWLING AVERAGES — CHICAGO BRANCH 96 the good work is kept up he may enter our team in either the Pittsburgh or Chicago tournam;nts—which for any female team is SOMETHING to aim. at. Notice the girls of Branch 96 will give Branch 429 se rious competition in any proposed tournament. Their averages are something to make evén the males look to their laurels. Nice work, Chicago! And fine write-ups, Irene Balia and Mrs. Mary Sabo! Well, looks as if our sister Branch 395 is doing all right. Given a little time, the two branches will be able to bowl against each other on an even basis. When and if Branch 429 visits Branch 395 in spring of 1942 the males will also have a team to enter in a little private tournament, making it a fight to the finish. Certainly it seems as if bowling is sweeping the Verhovay ranks, and it is the opinion of The Ferret that SUCCESS will be the reward of the committee in charge of the tournament at Pittsburgh, and our supreme officers will also share this reward. Let’s go! Fraternally, THE FERRET, Publicity Agent.--------------O-------------On the Spot The magistrate bent stern brows on the defendant: “You are charged with exceeding the speed limit last night,” he declaimed. “Are you guilty or not guilty?” “Well, Judge, you can decide that for yourself,” replied the prisoner, “I was in that car you passed just before they pinched me.” Times Change Monday, October27 1st 2nd 3rd Helen Ziga 156 113 133 Irene Balia 130 135 108 Theresa Bankó 95 82 83 Ida Krai 93 73 86 Kathleen Uhlean 83 76 80 Margaret Prdkop114 98 117 Rose Mleczko— 109 101 Irene Bankó 81 61 83 Lillian Raklovits 114 159 112 Angeline Raklovits 136 176 103 Margaret Chehy 56 96 76 Monday, November 3rd Helen Ziga130 106 146 Irene Balia 93 124 129 Theresa Bankó 68 86 66 Ida Krai 83 94 113 Kathleen Uhlean 86 132 70 Margaret Prokop_ 135 1134 Rose Mleczko--- '114 123 Irene Bankó 84 71 76 Lillian Raklovits■ — — — Margaret Chehy— 92 104 Monday, November 10th Helen Ziga115 160 146 Irene Bankó 74 90 81 Margaret Chehy 96 122 131 Margaret Prokop105 137 120 Lillian Raklovits— 139 143 Irene Balia 126 145 109 Theresa Bankó 88 95 87 Ida Krai 96 127 81 Rose Mleczko 124 122 124 Kathleen Uhlean 74 112 92 Monday, November 17 th Helen Ziga129 121 100 Irene Bankó 92 57 101 Margaret Chehy 117 131 129 Margaret Prokop112 122 93 Lillian Raklovits 180 104 99 Irene Balia 116 150 95 Theresa Bankó— — — Ida Krai— — — Rose Mleczko102 92 83 Kathleen Uhlean68 90 71 (Submittedby Irene Balia, Auxiliary of Branch 96.) Why, before I was married I didn’t know the meaning of fear.” Calendar of Verhovay Socials NOVEMBER 29th, SATURDAY. — New York City. — Fifth Anniversary of Branch 83, with a dramatic program featuring the eminent Bertus Paszthy,- and > dance and dance contest. Our Board of Directors established a fund in March of last year for the purpose of easing the situation of our aged members unable to work, and earn wages and without any means of support. Those of our members can count on assistance from this so called Verhovay Fund who satisfy the conditions established in the Board of Directors resolution, listed herewith: From January 1, 1942, the Board orders the payment of six monthly dues after every aged member without work, earnings or income, within the limits of the Fund, that is, to one who a. ) is a member in good standing, b. ) is at least sixty-five years of age and whose certificate is dated January 1, 1924 or before, c. ) is unable to work and earn wages and is completely without any income, d. ) has taken out the full reserve value of his certificate, e. ) if the branch officers recommend the member entitled to it, in accordance with the above conditions. The aid is to be issued after not more than $1000.00 insurance, and in any one given year can not be more than six monthly dues. The Board directs the Home Office to prepare the necessary questionnaires and to send them through the branches to those entitled to same, and upon applications being received, if the applicants live up to the conditions, permit them to avail themselves of this assistance, that is, pay six monthly dues after them out of this Fund. The Board announces that the amount of the assistance is to be considered a donation and can not be deducted from the Death Benefit. In view of the decision of the Board, we request our co-workers, the branch secretaries, to submit the names of all those members to the Home Office who wish to avail themselves of this assistance. Before reporting, however, they should read carefully the conditions established by the TENTATIVE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE NATIONAL VERHOVAY BOWLING CONGRESS 1. All members of teams must be regular certificate holders of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. 2. Play-off for the National Verhovay Bowling Congress will take place during the third week of March, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pa. 3. Eligible teams for the championship play-off in Pittsburgh, Pa., will be the following: a) Champion team of every Verhovay Bowling League. b) Winner of round-robin of independent teams not members of Verhovay Bowl..ing Leagues. These independent teams must, however, maintain membership in local recognized A. B. C. League and must be advertised as a “Verhovay Team.” 1. All round-robin players must be bonafide members of a team competing in the round-robin and shall have bowled in at least Yz of the games in their team’s respective league. 2. The trustees of the National Verhovay Bowling Congress reserve the right of designating the time, place, date and eligibility of teams desiring such competition. 4. The trustees of the National Verhovay Bowling Congress will pay a definite traveling expense to each winning team (League Champion and Round-Robin Winner) traveling to Pittsburgh, Pa., and return. a) Each team will be allowed hotel, meal, theatre tickets, victory dinner and dance accomodations for seven members of a team only, this including manager and captains. b) Stay in Pittsburgh to be approximately two to three days depending on conditions. c) Champions will receive appropriate trophy, medals and leather jackets. d) All other medals and trophies will be announced later. / 5. The trustees of the National Verhovay Bowling Congress reserve the right of making such amendments or alterations to the above conditions to the best interest of the Verhovay Fraternal Insurance Association. ALBERT B. ARI ) FRANK BROGLEY ) Trustees DR. JOSEPH H. PRINCE ) NOTE: All teams have until December 31, 1941 to enter the NATIONAL VERHOVAY BOWLING CONGRESS. The RULES AND REGULATIONS OF TIIE VERHOVAY TRI-STATE BOWLING LEAGUE, published in the October 9, 1941 issue, are NOT the rules and regulations for the NATIONAL VERHOVAY BOWLING CONGRESS. Board and report the names of I only such members as are eligible Tor the monthly dues aid, in accordance with the conditions. After receiving the reports, the Home Office will investigate the validity of the claims. Even at this time, numerous appeals have been received, and from these we see that many did not read the decision of the Board of Directors carefully. Those wishing to avail themselves of the assistance must have I their monthly dues paid to December 31, 1941. From the Verhovay Fund, the monthly dues of those eligible will be payable only from January 1, 1942, and for SIX MONTHS. We earnestly request the branch secretaries to submit the appeals of those only who are truly in need of this aid. The Fund at our disposal is not large, and for this reason we can satisfy the requests received only within certain limitations.
