Page 12 Vahovayak Lapja October 30, 1941 THE HUMOROUS =VEIN= A Problem “I would like to meet you again,” he murmured as they glided through the waltz. “What about letting me have your telephone number?” “It’s in the book,” she told him. “Good! What’s your name?” “You’ll find that in the —book, too.” Roughing It “Hello, where have you been?” “Just got back from a camping trip.” “Roughing it, eh?” “I’ll say so. Why, one day our portable dynamo failed us, and we had no hot water, heat, electric lights, ice, or radio, for almost two hours.” Nerve “The bravest man I ever knew,” said the explorer “was the chap who took a taxi to the bankruptcy court, and then, instead of paying his fare, invited the driver in as a creditor.” Sudden Dave had taken his girl to lunch and she had spoken to a nice looking man at the next table. “Is that man a friend of yours?” asked Dave. “Yes,” she replied. “Well, why don’t you ask him to join us!” “Oh, Dave, this is so sudden,” cooed the girl. “What’s so sudden?” “Why—why—he’s our Mi-' nister.” Ambiguous Remark The hostess had trouble in getting Bill Hughes to sing. After the song had been given she came up with a smiling face to her guest and made the ambiguous remark. “Now, Mr. Hughes, you must never tell me again that you cannot sing—I know now!” His Answer “Pop, your answer to that question you gave me last night was wrong, and teacher didn’t like it, either.” “What question was that, son?” “Remember I asked you how much a million dollars was? Well, ‘hulluva lot’ wasn’t the right answer.” Brief Ethel—“I hear you married your boss. How long did you work for him?” Lolo—“Until I got him.” Avoid the Rush A new musical comedy came to town. The billboards read: “50 beautiful girls. 45 gorgeous costumes.” Ten people were killed in the rush for tickets for the opening performance. Like a Poet The girl had just said “yes.” “Do your people know that I write poetry?” he asked. “Not yet, dear,” she said. “I’ve told them about your drinking and gambling, but I couldn’t tell them everything at once.” His Style Jane: “Whenever I get down in the dumps, I buy myself a new hat.” Sally: “So that’s where you get them.” The Humorous Side Diner: “What kind of pie is this—apple or peach?” Waitress: What does it taste like?” Diner: “Glue.” Waitress: “Then it’s apple. The peach pie tastes like putty.” Thoughtless Husband: “I’ve got to get rid of my chauffeur ... he’s nearly killed me four times.” Wife: “Oh, give him another chance!” MEMBER HALAS PROMOTED Elmer J. Tell him I send my congratulations and that Verhovay has reached its long fingers into the deep South to remind one, who is over a thousand miles awcy, that he is still a Hungarian and a true Verhovay member.
