DETROIT SPORTLITES With the bowling season again in full swing, the Detroit Verhovay Bowling League has organized for its fourth consecutive year of bowling. This year the League has 8 teams, one of which is the representative of the Verhovay branches in Detroit. This coming season the league has hopes of a prosperous and successful year of bowling under the guidance of its capable officers, namely, Zoltán Vincent, President; Paul Szegő, Secretary; and Frank A. Szopko, Treasurer. The Detroit Verhovay Bowling League is now in its fifth week of bowling and the standings of the teams are as follows: Week of October 19, 1941 1942 Feb.1 st W LP T New York ‘B’at Trenton 1.Verhovay 11 44 15 New York ‘A'at Allentown 2.Lane Service 11 44 15 Manville at New Brunswick3. Now that it is being given a trial, all branches notify the director in your section if you have a bowling team, and let’s get it started as it will certainly spread the name Verhovay throughout the sports world and bring closer co-operation and fraternalism among the various Verhovay branches. The Verhovay Bowling League will miss one of its outstanding bowlers, Kenneth Toth, who bowled for the Toth Real Estate Team in the league and was the be allowed to bowl on this all-Captain—JuliusLenart star team. Branch 395 of McKeesport, Pa., is rapidly becoming the bowling center of the tri-state district. This popular sport has captured the interests of many a Verhovay member. The league has now been in full swing for one month, and so many members have turned out that it is quite a job for the captains to determine their best line-ups. The members are slowly but surely improving their game. It is safe to say that within a few months our league will compare with the best. It will be Branch 395’s policy to challenge oilier branches in the tri-state district. Only regular certificate ■holding members will “Frames.” Not more than two balls are allowed for each frame a circle (O). If, however, the remaining -pins are knocked down with the second ball, it becomes a Spare and is indicated with a line across the circle. If all ten pins are not knocked down with both balls, only the actual number of pins knocked down with both balls are scored. Scoring is cumulative, and to the total of each Frame are added the pins secured In the next Frame plus Strike or Spare bonuses. From time to time “pointers” will be given through this column. Please watch for it for you may further improve your game through these “tips.” The scores are as follows: October 8. 1941 Team I—The Reds High Average Ladies: Violet Borsy 74 Mi; Men: Steve Poliak except the 10th when one or two 106. extra balls are allowed, provided _ a “Mark” (Spare or Strike) was October 8. 1941. made in this Frame.
