SMOKE FROM MARTINS FERRY Branch 40 Martins Ferry, Ohio The Juvenile Order of this branch held its movie and dance on December 31. 1940, and the affair turned out successful in every detail. The motion pictures that Mr. John Korosfoy showec are still being talked of as the best films ever shown in the Hungarian Hall, and our fervent hope is that Mr Korosfoy will again come to Martins Ferry with more pictures of our grand U.S.A After the moving pictures there was dancing, which continued till the early hours of New Year, with the music furnished by Val Konyha’s Orchestra, featur ing as his vocalist Gizella Barabas and Joe Nameth. * * * Branch 40 held its regular meeting on January 12 1941 at the Hungarian Hall The meeting was one of the best attended for some time. New programs were worked out for 1941, among them the decision to contribute oftener to the Journal, and not just notices as in the past, but detailed reports on Branch 40’s social activities. Val Konyha, Publicity Manager of Branch 40, made the plea that the Senior Order give more attention to the Juvenile Order, reminding that the future of Verhovay depends largely on these youngsters, successors to Verhovay. Said Mr. Konyha: “Through cooperation of the Senior and Juvenile Orders, Branch 40 will become outstanding in the Verhovay family.” The members well saw the wisdom of these words. In reference to the sports life of the branch, Mr. Konyha stated that almost all clubs sponsoring sports, for instance, baseball or basketball, usually present jackets to their players at the end of the season, or give them a banquet. One of the more ardent sportsmen put this into the form of a motion, asking that a new basketaall be bought for the team and a' banquet held at the end of the season. The moion was carried unanimousy. Furthermore, Publicity Manager Konyha opened his scrapbook to show the members exactly how many write-ups Branch 40 received in 1940, through sports. A new motion was made by one of the Senior members that Branch 40 formally celebrate its 35th anniversary later on in this year. After a short debate the motion was carried and the dates set for the event, which are September 5 and 6, 1941, great days for Branch 40. Committees were appointed and ordered to report from time to time on the progress of the plans for the celebration of Branch 40’s 35th anniversary, in September of this year. This meeting was very successful in that much was accomplished with little ado. Fraternally, Val Konyha, Publicity Manager. N. B.
