June 12, 1941 Pase 8 ___________________Verhovayak Lapja June 22 CHICAGO DISTRICT CONTEST November 30 Contest Closes Verhovay Day 55th JUBILEE YEAR BRANCH 96 — CHICAGO, ILLINOIS Mr. and Mrs. Frank Szabó, charter members of Branch 96, were pleasantly surprised Saturday, May 24th, at Prokop’s Hall, by their many friends and relatives, the occasion being their FORTIETH Wedding Anniversary. The Hall was filled to capacity. After a delicious supper was served, John Szalanczy, President of Branch 96, and one of the directors of our organization, acting as Master of Ceremonies, called on relatives and friends of the feted couple, who wished them many more years of health and happiness, and each speaker expressed his desire to attend the FIFTIETH Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Szabó. Members Of Branch 96, Branch 130 and Branch 164 were among the well-wishers of the happy couple. We take this opportunity to wish them again many more years of health and happiness. Mr. Szabó has been Vice-President of Branch 96 for many years, which office he holds at the present time. The pictures which follow show scenes from this happy occasion. ATTENTION: MEMBERS OF BRANCH 96 For the convenience of members and friends of Branch 96 who are planning to attend the 55th Jubilee Celebration Sunday, June 22nd, a chartered bus will make frequent trips from 119th and Sangamon Streets to Frank’s Grove, 117 th Street and Homan Avenue. The first bus (fill leave at 9:30 A. M., and every hour thereafter. An interesting program has been arranged for your enjoyment. Members of Branch 96 will be among the entertainers. The well-known Andrin brothers, Albert and Anthony, will recite in Hungarian. Stephen Schuster, Jr., who has thrilled audiences in the past on several Ver­­hovay programs, will offer vocal selections accompanied at the piano by Miss Dorothy Mae Cook. Denes Gyerko, Senior member, will entertain the audience with Hungarian and American songs. Talented members from other branches in the Chicago District will appear on the program, and the well-known Hun­garian stars, lea Kiszely and Karl Hatvary. CHICAGO DISTRICT JUBILEE CELEBRATION The most important day in the history of the Chi­cago District branches is drawing near, where Ver­hovay members will meet Verhovay members from all parts of the Central states. Those of us who were for­tunate in attending the District meetings have made many valuable acquaintances with Verhovay members from branches in the vici­nity of Chicago — friends who will never be forgotten so long as we live — friend­ship that is more valuable than all material wealth. No doubt I am speaking for every Verhovay member, when I say, This VERHO­VAY DAY will be the day of days.
