April 10, 1941 Verhovayak Lapja Page 7 LADIES’ PAGE Conducted by BETTY TAROL BA LEO A Appeal, Beauty and Charm By BETTY CAROL BALEGA At long last the balmy spring days are descending upon us. And with spring comes the release of all our pent-up energy that has been collecting through the last “stay-at-home” days of the in-between season. Once more the young man’s fancy turns lightly to thoughts of love, and vice-vprsa. Once more, hand in hand, young love slowly meanders along stony paths, or gaily gambols on high hill tops. To match the mood, spring releases from the Lenthéric Salon are equally as exciting, equally as carefree anl lighthearted, equally as... well here, see for yourself— Picnic /eMTífvhSw First, there is the Lenthéric Picnic, a trio of perfumes carried in a frivolous picnic basket resembling wicker and strapped with wide satin ribbon, bluegreen and rose-red., A bouquet of roses and ribbon bows form the handle. This picnic gift basket opens to a choice of fragrant contents—either Tweed, Miracle and Confetti, or Tweed, Shanghai and A Bientot. Lenthéric salutes tlie colors! Then there is Lenthéric’s salute to the colors!—a patriotic gesture in the form of their new “Color Guard” Triplikit Vanity, a salute to the red, white and blue! Knotted in the center of the cover is a tri-color enamel bow surrounded by stars spangled over the white background. Tiny bows and more stars repeat the motif on the back of the case. The “Color Guard” contains a full size lipstick, rouge and a compartment for loose powder. Yours, too, will be a patriotic gesture when you flourish this colorful vanity! HaVing a flair for gay and romantic names, the new gala fragrance ensemble... Confetti ... upholds all traditions. Designed for life’s most gay and frivolous occasions, there is the Perfume, Bouquet, Face Powder, Talc, DeLuxe Toilet Soap, Bath Oil and Powder, Bath Salts, Sachet in Flacon, and the Billet Doux Sachets. For that satiny complexion finish that you’ve dreamed about, there is the Lenthéric Face Powder in the five famous fragrances, Tweed, Miracle, Shanghai, A Bientot and Confetti. Each box is jacketed in a high-gloss, transparent covering for soilproof protection, and comes in a GADABOUTS Just a lazy bit of window chopping to write about today, as most everybody has the last of her Easter wardrobe carefully placed away in tissue paper for the ‘big day. I peeked around the corner of a very clever gift shop and for a few seconds thought I had been transplanted into darkest Africa! It seems the latest jewelry trend has finally headed in that direction, or 1 should say, from that direction! Necklaces, bracelets, and rings are all made up ol long, pointed bits of stone and simulated tiger’s teeth. Very colorful and barbaric, but a bit loo realistic for your editor ... You are now able to obtain the regulation Red Cross pins, about the size of a nickel, with an adorable little watch in the reverse side of the Cross. When pinned to a uniform while you are on duty at your production center, they are even more handy than a wrist watch. There seems to be no limit to the Mexican art work that is finding its way across the border. Fiesta ware started everything, and the linens followed. Last week, however, I received a really clever hand-made doll— a peon and his little donkey— woven of some straw native to Mexico'. It is one of the nicest ornaments from “south of the border” that I have ever seen. The artificial boutonnieres this season are more than cute! We find everything nestling among the flowers, from tiny baby peeps to rabbits! Most of the flowers are made of the new fibre material, and all they need to keep sequence of seven shades mimicking natural skin tones. While we knowingly acknowledge the fact that Nature’s spring presentations • and young love have the center of the stage right now, we must also admit that the Lenthéric Salon’s presentations are right up there in the spotlight with them! them looking fresh is an hour or so in the electric refrigerator. Back to Jewelry again we find that practically all the silversmiths and such are doing quite a business with the military insignias. They have made tiny plaques suspended from delicate silver chains—lovely for any gal to sport. The insignia, of course, is on the plaque. Shorts, playsuits and slacks are beginning to make their annual appearance again. Tó date the slacks seem to have a slight iead on the shorter suits, but when the weather gets warmer I believe there’ll be a different story to tell. Anyway, your editor is betting on the shorts! Indian moccasins, complete with fringes and colorful beads, are the very latest in footwear for sports. The leather and soles are very soft and pliable, and really it feels as though you have no shoes on at all! Hand tooled ■slippers are beginning to make their appearance, too. A bit expensive, but worth it. Large artificial magnolias—■ life-size if you please—are very good for the spring flower arrangements in the alcove or archway between living and dining rooms. Place them in a large white alabaster vase and see what the effect will be upon the two rooms. The flowers and white vase will blend in with practically any color scheme at all. Just a hint before closing my little black note book: Mother’s Day will be here before yon know it, so why don’t you hive the photograph taken that you promised her so long ago? She’ll love it! f ^ ' Aunt Mary's Column Well, friends, time and tide wait for no one and neither do the Journal presses! So I had better start right in on a recipe or so, before the editors think your Aunt Mary is getting too old for this job! To sort of get them into a good humor, here’s just the thing... Hungarian Goulash! Ready? 3 lbs. veal in cubes 3 large potatoes diced. % cup water 1 teaspoon salt 3 large onions sliced % teaspoon paprika 1 cup butter or drippings 1 cup cream % teaspoon black pepper Put the butter in a pan on the stove, and when hot add onions and fry them; add the veal and cook until brown. Add the water, cover and cook very slowly until the meat is tender; then add the seasonings and place the potatoes on top of the meat. Cover and cook Until the potatoes are tender but not falling to pieces. Then add the cream and cook five minutes longer. This. dish will serve six person. For a really delicious salad try this Ambrosia Salad ... all of the ingredients are in season now, so it should be easy to make. 1 pineapple 1 pint strawberries 4 bananas 1 cup sherry wine 1 quart grated cocoanut 6 oranges Sugar Peel and slice pineapple, cut slices into thin strips.
