Gábor Eszter: Andrássy Avenue – Our Budapest (Budapest, 2002)
6oo Ft The hope of a metropolis, Andrássy üt—Sugárút has come to be emblematic of a whole historical era. The idea of building it was first raised within a year of the Compromise between Austria and Hungary in 1867, and some five years after the unification of Pest, Buda and Óbuda. Completed by the time the National Exhibition of 1896, the avenue had its heyday in the period before World War 1. Though it lost some of its significance with the demise of those "happy days of peace", an aura of magic envelopes Andrássy út to this day. The avenue was included in the World Heritage in the summer of 2002. CITY HALL
