Prohászka László: Equestrian Statues - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1997)
St. István construction of the Church of Our Lady and designed the Fishermen’s Bastion. The neo-Romanesque substructure, surrounded by a fretwork breast-wall, is decorated with four reliefs, each featuring a significant moment in the reign of István. The one on the front depicts the passing of laws, the one on the right the coronation ceremony, the left-hand side one the hommage of Vienna, and the one in the back the foundation of the Székesfehérvár church. Above them, and similarly to the sepulchres of Renaissance Italy, another pediment is placed, whose four corners are guarded by as many sitting lions carved into limestone. The front of the pediment is ornamented with an Agnus Dei, while the back is decorated with the double cross. The carved limestone breast-wall surrounding the monument ends in the front and back in two small but carefully decorated, rectangular, wrought-iron gates. 21
