April to November. Jogging and Running A popular place is around the perimeter of Margaret Island (6) as the island is convenient and relatively traffic-free. Some other places mentioned in section 6 are also suitable, e.g. City Park, People’s Park, Városma­jor and Vérmező. The “Island Handicap” [Szigeti Han­dicap] is a 5 km run round Margaret Island for all ages and abilities. First Saturday of every month. Starts at 10 am from the Hajós Swimming Baths. You can change inside the building. Registration 9 am, Ft 100 fee pay­able on first run, thereafter no charge for one year. Not so much a competition, more a health and fun run involving a points system to measure your own perfor­mance. All welcome. The Futapest Club, based in the city council offices at 62-64 Váci u. (tel: 118-3933) organises regular running events—e.g. the “Futapest” run in early September and the “Mikulás” run in early December in the City Park. The IBC1SZ Budapest Marathon is an annual marathon usually taking place on the second Sunday in May. Minimum age for the marathon is 18, but there is also a 6 km “fun run” which is open to children. The start and finish is at the People’s Stadium [Népstadion] and you can join in at the last minute. The “Vivicitta” run is based on the Italian model. Nor­mally the first Sunday in April sees a mass, 12 km run around the city, starting from the Palatínus baths on Margaret Island. Open to all, including children.
