Cycling Traffic conditions and bad pollution mean that Budapest is not the best city for cyclists, although increasing numbers can be seen and their supporters are becoming more vociferous. Cycling is prohibited on the Chain Bridge, through the Castle Hill tunnel, on the approach road to the airport and on the motorways. There are only a few cycle paths in the city, though quite a number are under construction or planned. A special map [Budapest Kerékpárútjai] should be available at Tourinform (1) and the Hungarian Cyclists’ Federation at 31 Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út in central Pest. A cycle path has recently opened between Budapest and Szentendre on the Danube, 20 km to the north. Bicycles, including children’s bicycles, can be hired at the following places: 1. Margaret Island. Two places —at the south end, near the roundabout, and at the north end near Thermal Hotel bus stop. The former is open spring to autumn, the latter all year.
