5. Swings and Sand-Pits - Playgrounds

5. SWINGS AND SAND-PITS Budapest has numerous playgrounds. Some are better and cleaner than others, but in most cases attempts are made to tidy them up if only at infrequent intervals. The following is a list of city-centre playgrounds which may provide a useful break for small children otherwise tired with shopping or sight-seeing. In winter-time swings and other items are sometimes removed for maintenance. Erzsébet tér This is the large square behind the central bus station in Deák tér, where all the metro lines inter-connect. The British embassy is on Harmincad u., by the southwest corner of the square. It’s in this corner where most of the playground equipment and a pay-toilet can be found. There are wooden and metal climbing frames, parallel bars, sand-pits, six swings, small slides and wooden trains. There are lots of seats and tables and there is also a toddler’s section with slide and model car. It can get very crowded. In the northwest corner there are four more swings and sand-pit. Drinks and snacks can be obtained from the roadside kiosk or at the buffet on the ground floor inside the bus station nearby.
