Gerle János: Palaces of Money - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1994)

The magnificent glass dome of the cashier’s hall in the Domestic Bank (today the British Embassy) expecting to enter a simple, formal office, one is confronted by a nobly artistic, almost grandiose, milieu. The ceiling above is a wavy, prismatically glitter­ing glass dome, which decorates and illuminates the grand hall at the same time. Across from the entrance is a row of sparingly decorated rose- marble columns, which support the cupola of the hall, and down below one’s feet tread upon a rich, one might even say magnificent, marble mosaic. 61
