colours and moods of these pictures painted by Lajos Márk, a popular painter of the turn of the century, are in perfect harmony with the intimacy of the small shop. Almost exactly opposite the flower shop, at no. 8, is a typical Art Nouveau building. Its ornaments are perhaps the best known and most widely used elements of sculptural decoration at the turn of the century. The female figure with wings spread out under the wavy gable, with two curly-haired women’s heads at the top of twisted engaged columns on either side are all popular decorative motifs of Art Nouveau. The balconies, with their beautiful railings, and the children dancing on the corners are also frequently used features. On the walls of the building facing the courtyard there are no very interesting details to be discovered. The only decoration on the simple white tile covering of the facade overlooking the courtyard is the ribbon-like stripe made of coloured tiles running around. Observe, however, the variously shaped windows following the line of the stairs. Their execution reflects a high level of professional skill.
