Prohászka László: Polish Monuments - Our Budapest (Budapest, 2001)

The Polish church in Kőbánya the Poles living in Hungary in general, and in Buda­pest and Kőbánya in particular, was fulfilled. Based on a design of the outstanding Hungarian architect Aladár Árkay, the church was built at the corner of Apaffy utca (presently Kőér utca) and Óhegy utca. It was consecrated by August Hlond, cardinal-primate of Poland. The first priest of the church was Danek Wincenty, who was specially sent to Hungary by the Lwow episcopacy to take care of the task. The building of the Polish church has a simple structure. Attached to it on the left is a sturdy, bas­tion-like tower. The architectural decoration of the entrance employs remarkable motifs in the style of late Hungarian Art Nouveau architecture. The single­nave interior is skilfully composed, the glass win­dows of the longitudinal walls providing ample light for the inside. Although not the work of outstanding artists, the interior decoration fits the architectural structure appropriately. The worst aspects of the 49
