there in 1958. Made in 1949, the cast bronze por­trait, one of the finest ever made of Chopin, bears testimony to the artistic skill of one of the best Polish sculptors, Ksawery Dunikowski. Dunikowski, to whom a whole museum is devoted in the Królikarnia castle in Warsaw, is not widely known in Hungary. The beginning of his career was marked by the influence of Academic art prevalent at the end of the 19th cen­tury, but his lengthy stay in Paris was a period in which the work of Rodin had great influence on him. His later period is hall-marked by fascinating portraits and imposing monuments. One of the most beautiful opera houses of Europe stands in Andrássy út, a short distance from the Music Academy.
