The place became the best and, deservedly, the most fashionable night club in town. It was a distinction to appear in a show in the dome hall. Celebrated Hungarian and international guest performers were invited to the establishment. In 1955-56, Pál Herrer’s world famous jazz band played here and Hungarian Radio often broadcast live concerts from the hall. Reconstructed and renamed on several occasions, the hotel has gradually lost, regrettably, its unique aura. As a member of the Radisson chain it was converted into a modern hotel in the eighties, but the fagade was left in its original shape. The Hotel ASTORIA No. 19-21 Kossuth Lajos utca, district V The Astoria, one of the still extant historic hotels of Budapest, was built in two phases, between 1912 and 1914, to plans made by Rezső Hikisch and Emil Ágoston in the style of the building that had occupied the site previously.
