The Pest side Narrow rings of woods consisting mainly of locust trees are found by the Ferihegyi út, by the üllői út housing estate and by Távíró utca. The Merzse Swamp in Rá­kosmezeje (17th district) is a local environment protec­tion area of 27 hectares with interesting sights. The Mádencia Forest in the Ócsa Nature Conserva­tion Area is a protected alder swamp of 3575 hectares. It is worth making a 20 km trip to the south of Budapest to see this remnant of the typical ancient vegetation between the Danube and Tisza. The so-called “turján” region near Ócsa, Dabas and Inárcs is one of the last and valuable remainders of the once vast marshland lying between the Danube and the Tisza.
