To meet growing demands related to the expanding tourism of the inter-war period, one hostel was built after another in the Buda hills. By 1935 there were five of these in operation within the boundaries of Budapest. In snowy months it was only the sledge-riders who visited the Buda hills with Normafa their major desti­nation. Later at the end of the 19th century, the first “snow-skaters” and “foot-sledgers” began to appear on Sváb Hill with their curious-looking gear. Downhill skiing in Budapest is today virtually syn­onymous with the Harangvölgy slope by Normafa, while cross-country skiers can show up aimost anywhere in the snowy woodlands on the Buda side. In 1924, a ski jump of a wooden structure was built about halfway between Normafa and János Hill on the tourist route marked with red triangles.
