(Address: 1023 Budapest, ii, Frankel Leó út 25-29. TEL: 115-4280) Rác Thermal Baths This pretty 16th-century building is situated at the Buda end of Elizabeth Bridge. (According to contemporary chronicles King Mátyás himself seeked refreshment in its waters. Apparently he used a tunnel to get to the baths from the castle.) Its thermal waters, containing a lot of calcium, magnesium and alkali salts, are especi­ally suitable for treating chronic arthritis, muscle and nerve pain. Budapest women like it especially for its fitness and aerobic courses. This again is a “conservative” place, women may go there on odd days only, men on even days. Open: Monday to Saturday: 6.30 am to 7 pm. Closed on Sundays. (Address: 1013 Budapest, 1, Hadnagy u. 8-10. TEL: 156-1322) Rudas Baths Another four-hundred-year-old Turkish monument, the octagonal pool and hemisphere dome of the Rudas Baths is an exceptionally beautiful tourist attraction. Its thermal baths are open to men only.
