(Address: 1023 Budapest, ii, Frankel Leó út 25-29. TEL: 115-4280) Rác Thermal Baths This pretty 16th-century building is situated at the Buda end of Elizabeth Bridge. (According to contemporary chronicles King Mátyás himself seeked refreshment in its waters. Apparently he used a tunnel to get to the baths from the castle.) Its thermal waters, containing a lot of calcium, magnesium and alkali salts, are especially suitable for treating chronic arthritis, muscle and nerve pain. Budapest women like it especially for its fitness and aerobic courses. This again is a “conservative” place, women may go there on odd days only, men on even days. TEL: 156-1322) Rudas Baths Another four-hundred-year-old Turkish monument, the octagonal pool and hemisphere dome of the Rudas Baths is an exceptionally beautiful tourist attraction. Its thermal baths are open to men only.
