Csernus Lukács - Triff Zsigmond: The Cemeteries of Budapest - Our Budapest (Budapest, 1999)

The tomb of Mihály Munkácsy at the corner OF THE ARTISTS’ SECTION et and writer; Ferenc Mező, champion of the Intellectual Olympics and historian of sports; Oszkár Beregi, actor; Kálmán Pataky, opera singer; Mihály Táncsics, writer and politician; Miklós Izsó, sculptor; Frigyes Feszi, the eminent architect of the Vigadó. In the next part of the section, there is the sarcophagus, by Albert Schickedanz, of Ignác Semmelweis, even though the “saviour of mothers” actually lies elsewhere; next to this, you can see a relief by György Zala over the grave of Mrs Jókai, née Róza Laborfalui-, the memorial of sculptor Ferenc Medgyessy is his own work; it was also Medgyessy who made the sculpture adorning the grave of the renowned arts historian Károly Lyka. The relief above the grave of composer Leó Weiner was made by Zsigmond Kisfaludi Strobl, while the statue of the painter Tivadar Csontuáry Kosztka is the work of Jenő Kerényi. The grave of the painter Károly Ferenczy is ornamented with a statue by his son Béni Ferenczy, who lies next to him; the senior Ferenczy’s two other children, Valér Ferenczy, painter, and Noémi Ferenczy, painter and tapestry artist, are also buried in this section. Over the grave of writer Gyula Krúdy is an inverse relief, that is a carving with a design sunk in the flat surface of the stone, by Miklós Borsos; the grave of sculptor Zsigmond Kisfaludi Strobl is ornamented with one of his own works.
