Matits Ferenc: Protestant Churches - Our Budapest (Budapest, 2003)

The church was consecrated on 26 October 1890. Listed on a marble plaque by the entrance from Nagy Ignác utca are the names of those who participated in the construction. Another plaque honours the memory of the church-founding bishop, Ferenc Dávid (c 1520-79) In the right-hand staircase there is a bust of Ferenc Dávid sculpted by Vilmos Szamosi Sobs. The furnishings of the church were designed by Samu Pecz. The woodwork of the Lord's table, the pulpit, the pews and the gallery were all made by Endre Thék. The organ housing is the work of Károly Ruprecht, while the organ itself was made by the Arad masters Antal Dangel and Sons. In World War II the church and the building were damaged, the towers collapsed, the glass windows perished and the roof caved in. Reconstruction of the glass windows was made possible by the donations of Mrs Imre Kaplay and Péter Bartók. To replace the organ destroyed in the war, a Hammond electric organ was acquired, in part with aid from abroad. When the building was nationalised, the two apartments for pastors, the office, the congregation hall, the ecclesiastical library and the archives were left in the possession of the congregation. The central offices of the Unitarian Church of Hungary are housed in the building today. 70
