conducted sometime in mediaeval times in the hope of finding gold and silver known to occur together with limonite of hydrothermal origins, which can be found in the cave to this day. It is for certain, though, that such work was being done as late as the 18th century. Traces of this are still in evidence in the shape of steps carved in the flooring of the cavities and in the bore-holes used for the broadening of the cavity, which can still be studied in the passage called the "Mine Section”. A whole book devoted to the speleological activities conducted under the supervision of György Vajna in the second half of the 20th century and the cave's adventure-filled history was published under the title A rejtélyei Bdtori- barlans (The Mysterious Bátori Cave) in 1973.
