■ Monument of the Veteráné of the Labour Movement by Aladár Farkai, Klára Herczes and Zoltán Olnai Kin. 1967 was a well-liked approach of the period, used by sculptors to give a 'humane' touch to the ruling ideology. The timing of the inauguration ceremony was also characteristic of the period in that it was held on 7 November, suggesting that Lenin's birthday was 'inseparable' from the revolution itself. I4. Bust of Dimitrov (Jordan Krachmarov, 1954) The chairman of the city council of Sophia presented his Budapest counterpart with a portrait of Dimitrov in 1952. It was this which, enlarged to double life-size with the cooperation of Endre Gábor, was installed in the square named after the Bulgarian party boss. The statue did not escape the wrath of the revolutionaries in October 1956. Knocked off its pedestal, it was hanged by the neck on a tree, where it was left for days. After the revolution the sculpture was restored and stood in the square until 1983, when it was replaced with a more impressive, full-length statue. From 1984, the bust stood in Dimitrov út, in District 11. 29
