The endless promenade dedicated to persons in the labour movement

■ Monument of the Veteráné of the Labour Movement by Aladár Farkai, Klára Herczes and Zoltán Olnai Kin. 1967 was a well-liked approach of the period, used by sculptors to give a 'humane' touch to the ruling ideology. The timing of the inauguration ceremony was also characteristic of the period in that it was held on 7 November, suggesting that Lenin's birthday was 'inseparable' from the revolution itself. I4. Bust of Dimitrov (Jordan Krachmarov, 1954) The chairman of the city council of Sophia presented his Budapest counterpart with a portrait of Dimitrov in 1952. It was this which, enlarged to double life-size with the cooperation of Endre Gábor, was installed in the square named after the Bulgarian party boss. The statue did not escape the wrath of the revolution­aries in October 1956. Knocked off its pedestal, it was hanged by the neck on a tree, where it was left for days. After the revolution the sculpture was restored and stood in the square until 1983, when it was replaced with a more impres­sive, full-length statue. From 1984, the bust stood in Dimitrov út, in District 11. 29
