Housing Estates after 1945

■ Development plan of the Kerepeói út Homing Citate (Ernő Heim, Jánoi Brenner, 1953-54) development plan was made by Ernő Heim, János Brenner (Buváti), and Sándor Fülep (ÁÉTI) in 1953-54. One look at the result is enough to see that the designers treated the issue of urban planning and the overall cityscape as a prime con­sideration. It was one of their major objectives to avoid a monotonous effect of an almost kilometre-long strip of buildings between Róna utca and Örs vezér tér and bordering Kerepesi út. To achieve that, the whole unit was broken up into three parts—two frames accented with corner towers from Örs vezér tere, a double frame segmented by taller buildings from Róna utca, and a broken frame in between connected into a snake-like formation of buildings by three taller blocks. The broach-roofed apartment wings tend to be four stories high, with five- storey battlemented corner towers and connecting rings rising six storeys above ground level, including the crenellated attics. On the ground level of the latter type of building is a row of gates with segmented arches connecting the ser­viceway of Kerepesi út with the interior courtyards. On the other side of Bol­gárkertész út, the two ends of the housing estate are closed by a four-storey block each; between these two lies the estate, consisting of detached houses, of the Budapest Municipality.
