WATER TOWERS There are dozens of towers providing Budapest with fresh drinking water. Following are the ones of the greatest architectural or historical interest. On one of its promontories at an altitude of 332 metres was built a steel-frame observation tower. Climbing up to its terraces at 4.6 and 12 metre heights, one can have a good view of the surrounding area. To reach the tower, designed in 1983 by the company Agrober—Mezőti, one has to walk down a path flanked by columns commemorating Hungary's leading natural scientists, writers and conservationists (Péter Beretzk, István Fekete, Ottó Herman, Károly Kaán, and Kálmán Kittenberger). 66
