and the facade is a well-insulated aluminium structure. The central core made up of the 16-floor national and the 8-floor Budapest headquarters was made with sliding-shutter technology. The partition walls inside were assembled on site. The complex has a back-up power-supply system (relying on gas and diesel generators and batteries). Topping the 58-metre tall stairwell of the National Headquarters' section is a 33-metre high aerial mast whose highest point is more than ninety metres above ground level. Fixed to its support system are the straight and parabolic aerials, whose maintenance can be carried out from special balconies, attached to the mast at every three metres. The mast itself is an internally reinforced steel tube two metres in dia­meter with a service ladder and apparatuses for the mounting of cable clusters. "I hope from the bottom of my heart that the construction and subsequent use of the new police headquarters — resulting in more effective crime preven­tion - will be felt by society at large,” said President Árpád Göncz in his inaugu­ration speech.
