(Képes Krónika) A bécsi Képes Krónika számol be az 1074. március 14-i mogyoródi csatáról és az azt megelőző csodás eseményekről. Vác közelében táboroztak a Salamon király ellen felvonult Géza, László és Ottó hercegek csapatai. A legendás történet szerint egy nagy lakatlan erdő volt itt, amelyben csak egy Vác nevű remete élt, akiről Géza elnevezte az itt felépült várost. A hercegek a mai Hétkápolna környékén tanácskoztak, amikor László hercegnek látomása volt. Leszállt egy angyal az égből, és egy koronát helyezett Géza fejére. Mivel Géza nem látott semmit, László fejtette meg számára a jelenséget: Salamont legyőzik, és bátyját királlyá koronázzák. Géza ezt követően ígéretet tett, hogy egyházat emeltet Szűz Mária tiszteletére. A győztes csata után helyet kerestek a templomnak, s ekkor újból csoda történt: egy agancsain gyertyát hordozó szarvast láttak, melyre mikor rálőttek, a Dunába ugrott. A templomot azon a helyen - a mai Géza király téren - építtette fel Géza, ahol a szarvas megjelent.
